JOB SUMMARY

Opportunity to work in an Early Childhood Mental Health Program for children ages 0-5 in Manhattan. Seeking a bilingual mental health consultant to provide support to Early Care and Education program staff, students, and caregivers throughout Manhattan, with some opportunity to provide direct intervention to children ages 0-5 and their families. Supervision in early childhood mental health practices will be provided.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Establish collaborative relationships with Early Care and Education (ECE) Programs throughout Manhattan in order to provide Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation

  • Observe early childhood classrooms and help educators to implement positive behavior interventions and strategies to support social-emotional development.

  • Train ECE staff on early childhood mental health and wellness, including symptoms of trauma in young children.

  • Facilitate groups, workshops and/or one-on-one support sessions focusing on engagement, planning and coordinating that will support growth of ECE staff, children and families.

  • Consult with staff and families in ECE Programs to determine the need for additional support or referral for identified children.

  • Make referrals as needed for children who would benefit from more intensive mental health services.

  • Complete required documentation within required timeframes and within standards

  • Participate in regular supervision and attend early childhood specific trainings.

  • Provide individual play therapy, family therapy, and group therapy to pregnant parents, post-partum parents, children 0-5, children/teens (age 6-18) and their caregivers both in person and via teletherapy.

  • Provide case management and/or crisis intervention.

  • Complete ongoing documentation in electronic record, including treatment plan, progress notes, and assessments.

  • Working evenings to accommodate after school appointments is required.

  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)

  • Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MSW/LMSW/LCSW/MHC/LMHC with strong understanding of early childhood development (birth-five) and experience with young children.

  • Eagerness to learn evidence-based strategies to support mental health in young children.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team.

  • Willingness to travel throughout Manhattan, Bronx, and Brooklyn to programs.

  • Good time management skills.

  • Independent and self-motivated.

  • Proficiency in a second language (i.e., Spanish) preferred.
