Public Tax Manager - Alpharetta, GA

Our client, a boutique Public Accounting Firm is seeking a qualified Public Tax Manager to lead our tax department. This is a pivotal role within the organization that requires a blend of expertise in tax compliance, managerial acumen, and public service dedication.

Responsibilities:

1. Tax Policy and Compliance:

   • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local tax laws to ensure full compliance.
   • Oversee the preparation and filing of all government tax documents.
   • Manage the annual audit of tax matters and liaise with internal and external auditors.
   • Advise on tax policy matters and implications of new laws or ordinances.

2. Team Leadership and Professional Development:

   • Lead a team of tax professionals, providing mentorship and facilitating professional growth.
   • Train staff on new tax regulations and best practices.
   • Allocate and manage resources effectively to meet deadlines and organizational objectives.

3. Public Communication:

   • Develop and implement effective communication strategies for tax education to the public.
   • Work closely with other departments to streamline public-facing tax operations.
   • Respond to public inquiries regarding tax issues, serving as a key point of contact.

4. Budgeting and Financial Planning:

   • Develop annual budgets for the tax department, monitor financial expenditures, and report to senior leadership.
   • Assist in the planning and implementation of the city’s financial and tax-related strategic objectives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field. Master’s degree or CPA certification is a plus.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in tax compliance and management, preferably within the public sector.
• In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local tax codes and regulations.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with a focus on team development and operational efficiency.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
• High level of integrity and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
