Northland Workforce Training Center is Hiring a Welding Instructor Near Buffalo, NY

Position Description

Primary Instructor – Welding

Northland Workforce Training Center (NWTC) is seeking a responsible, highly skilled, and self-motivated individual to plan, implement, and facilitate all instructional requirements in the area of welding instruction to participants in the Northland Summer Academy. This six-week program, in conjunction with Mayor Byron Brown’s Summer Youth Program, will offer youth aged 16 to 21, an educational/internship experience focused on increasing their awareness of educational and career opportunities at Northland Workforce Training Center (NWTC) in the advanced manufacturing and energy sectors. Under the general supervision of the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, the individual must have strong working knowledge of structural fabricating, repair and maintenance, MIG, TIG, and ARC, 0XY/ACE welding and cutting and plasma cutting.

Reports To: Carolyn Storms- Stoltman, Director of Admissions, Northland Workforce Training Center

Coordinates With: Students and NWTC Staff

Supervises: Welding Instructional Assistant

Essential Functions:

The individual will plan, implement, and facilitate all instructional requirements in the area of welding instruction to Northland Summer Academy students from different backgrounds, ethnicity, nationalities, gender, ages, religions, or disabilities in the classroom and in the lab, using a variety of teaching methods such as lectures and demonstrations and using audiovisual and technological aids to supplement the presentations for the duration of the 6-week program between beginning Monday, July 8, 2024 and ending Friday, August 16, 2024 between 8:30 am and 1 pm.

Key Functions Include:

  • Prepare course outline and establish trackable learning outcomes;
  • Assist with the development of a curriculum of hands-on instruction to safely engage student for four hours daily for four week days;
  • Assist with the development of online lessons to be utilized as a hybrid alternative for six hours of online learning if class capacities are limited due to social distance requirements;
  • Provide students with appropriate learning materials and expertise in assigned subject(s);
  • Encourage student participation;
  • Supervise one lab assistant;
  • Establish and maintain an organized and disciplined classroom environment;
  • Is responsive to students and provides students with assistance and guidance;
  • Responsible for following and maintaining the NWTC Standards of Conduct;
  • Contribute and encourage a collaborative and inclusive working center culture;
  • Monitor progress and handle corrective actions in a highly confidential manner;
  • Analyze situations accurately and effectively problem solve;
  • Submit pertinent data to the Director of Admissions;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent current;
  • A Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or Certified Welding Educator (CWE) is preferred;
  • AWS certifications in SMAW, GMAW and GTAW;
  • Three years practical experience in the welding industry is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful teaching experience, preferably in a diverse, high school environment;
  • Good knowledge of field of specialization;
  • Knowledge of or experience in implementing a variety of teaching strategies;
  • Awareness of the value of technology as a tool for teaching;
  • Experience with computerized student record management;
  • Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations;
  • Remains current with subject matter and instructional methodology;
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity towards promoting an inclusive and diverse learning environment;
  • Industrious and dependable;
  • Ability to get along well with others;
  • Effective communication skills.

Position Details

Location: Northland Workforce Training Center, 683 Northland Avenue Buffalo, NY, 14211.

Compensation: Commensurate with Experience
Work Schedule: Beginning Monday July 8, 2024, and Ending Friday August 16,2024.
