POSITION SUMMARY
: Under general supervision of the Billing Supervisor, the Patient Accounts Technician assists the Fiscal Department in daily patient billing activities and projects. Supports the Fiscal Department in various billing responsibilities by maintaining current and proficient knowledge in private medical and dental insurance, Medi-Cal and Denti-Cal, and Family Planning Program (PACT), Medicare and General billing and accounting principles and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list, but rather to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) will be required to perform a variety of duties listed, including but not limited to:

  • Prepare Medicare, Medi-Cal, Denti-Cal, Family Planning (PACT) BCEDP and private billings, electronic and paper claims.
  • Monitor all claims by following the claim status metrics set forth by department procedures.
  • Keep current with ICD/CPT coding and State/Federal billing requirements
  • Answer all billing inquiries in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain all related files and read all updates released to the Billing Department.
  • Post incoming insurance payments to appropriate claims; ensuring each posting is balanced and claims are set to the next appropriate status for further billing or patient statements.
  • Takes patient payments over phone and prepares receipts and posting to proper patient accounts.
  • Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances when appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required for an employee to successfully perform their duties.

  • Current working knowledge and experience in Medi-Cal, Denti-Cal, EAPC, PACT, Medicare and private medical and dental insurance billing
  • High school diploma or equivalent, GED.
  • Two (2) years of computer billing with medical and dental terminology experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typing 50 wpm from clear copy.
  • Accurate operation of 10-key by touch
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software programs.
  • Ability to organize, adapt, and prioritize daily tasks independently.
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Current CPR certification
