Summary:

The supervisor reports directly to the department manager/director. Responsible for the utilization and supervision of students, PT aides, assistants and therapists working in his/her area relating to the provision of physical and occupational therapy services. The supervising therapist is responsible for interpretation/implementation of physician orders, provision of safe care to patients, protection of confidential information, professional communication, economic use of time/resources, and creation of a positive work/therapy environment. Accountable for the daily clinical operations of his/her unit and for implementation of program needs as determined by the manager/director. The supervisor provides therapy according to hospital, state, professional and federal regulations and guidelines, and demonstrates and promotes excellence in his/her discipline in patient care and treatment. In addition, the position: Requires effective mentoring and training skills along with good communication skills for departmental relationships. Requires competency in occupational or physical therapy evaluation, assessment, care planning and treatment. Requires task delegation and supervision of therapist assistants and rehab aides. Assists with scheduling in-services education, therapy student program, therapists and assistants orientation. Assists with therapist and assistant mentoring, training and communications to drive therapy excellence for patient treatments. Maintains open and on-going communication with hospital departments to ensure patient, staff, and hospital needs are met. Typically, provides patient care in licensed discipline 75% of work hours. Assists with quality improvement tasks such as Gemba and performance improvement. Creates an environment and culture that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission by helping staff to improve their clinical skills, and overall performance, through staff developing and mentoring.

Responsibilities:

• Assesses patient’s functional deficits, plans treatment and implements treatment in an appropriate manner in compliance with standards of professional practice. • Clinically examine, diagnose, and then prevent or treat conditions that limit the body’s ability to move and function in daily life. • Participates in recruitment of new therapists. • Attends appropriate team meetings and communicates/collaborates with other team members, individuals, family members or caregivers. • Terminates treatment when maximal benefits have been attained as well as developing appropriate discharge plans. • Maintains records and documentation as required by practice setting, third party payers and regulatory agencies. • Schedules and prioritizes own workload and that of other therapists. • Monitors therapist performance and identifies supervisory needs • Responsible for scheduling and ensuring adequate coverage for all areas of service • Supervision of support staff. • Responsible for development of initial and yearly staff competencies • Schedules and supervise students on clinical rotations from schools that A.R. Gould Hospital has a contract with and other CCCE duties. • Performs evaluations on all clinical staff with the assistance of others • Initiates, monitors and assesses departmental performance improvement initiatives with the assistance of others
