Summary:

The Manager of Security will integrate security needs into the strategic objectives of the organization. This person will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all the organization’s security strategies, programs, and procedures. This person will identify and be fully informed about the nature and types of risks that may affect the organization, its personnel, patients/clients/customers, and visitors at all Northern Light Health A.R Gould locations. In cooperation with the System Director of Security & the AVP of Facilities, the Manager of Security will direct the development of an effective strategy to assess and mitigate these risks, maintain continuity of operation, and develop protocols and procedures for handling crisis should they arise

Responsibilities:

1. Under limited supervision, manages the implementation of Northern Light Health’s Public Safety Management program.

2. Assesses security threats to the hospital(s) and off-site locations, assists in planning appropriate strategies and countermeasures.

3. Reviews and analyzes data and devises risk minimization programs.

4. Works with the Director of Security and the AVP of Facilities for the member organization to facilitate consistent Security Operations 24/7 for all hospitals.

5. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

6. Responsible for orienting, training, and directing of security supervisors and officers.

7. Recommends policy/procedure changes to improve operations.

8. Assists in the interviewing and selection of new staff for the department.

9. Oversees the creation and dissemination of crime/incident related reports.

10. Serves as a relief watch commander.

11. Supervises staff and manages employee performance.

12. Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, training, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills.

13. Monitors workflow of security supervisors and officers.

14. Recommends disciplinary action when appropriate in accordance with human resources policies.

15. Responsible for administering departmental policies and procedures in accordance with organizational and governmental guidelines.

16. Establishes and evaluates security standards in compliance with organizational and governmental guidelines.

17. Performs other related duties as required.

18. Responsible for managing, leading, and advising other departments in regulatory compliance relative to applicable regulations, codes, and standards, including those of EPA, DHHS, OSHA, local Fire Departments, and TJC. Advises/supports various committees to develop and review policies and procedures.

19. Maintain a safe environment for healthcare workers, patients, and/or visitors complying with NLH policies and procedures; review, document and address all incidents and safety violations within area of responsibility; report all lost time due to reported work injuries within 24 hours to Human Resources; support and facilitate open and non-punitive communication among NLH employees, non-employed healthcare workers, patients and visitors, reporting and addressing patient and environmental safety concerns.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Bachelor's degree preferred, 10 years relevant experience in lieu of education .

2. Six (6) years of military, law enforcement or security experience, with a minimum of three years of supervisory/lead experience required.

3. Maine Criminal Justice Academy (BLETP) graduate preferred.

4. Able to exercise physical restraint. Requires a valid CPR card, Maine driver's license and insurable driving record.

5. IAHSS (International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety) supervisor certification within one (1) year of employment.

6. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification and Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. 8 years related work experience required and 5 years supervisory/management experience required.

2. Prior full-time law enforcement training and experience preferred.

3. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications as assigned. May produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases.
