Summary/Objective

As a member of the Marketing, Volunteer and Philanthropy (MVP) team the Editorial & Marketing Specialist is responsible for providing support to the entire Food Bank to create engaging content for various channels that shows the impact of our work and inspires the public to take action. The ideal candidate is a creative and passionate storyteller with excellent writing skills in a fast-paced environment. The Editorial & Marketing Specialist will work closely with our marketing team on all advertising materials and presentations that will inform and engage stakeholders. This role will help bring the brand voice and tone to Food Bank communications to increase resources and awareness for the organization's programs, including My Pantry Express, Mobile Markets, SNAP outreach, and senior and child nutrition programs. Written and verbal Spanish fluency is a requirement for this role.

Essential Functions

    • Collaborate across Food Bank teams to identify and help write high-quality and engaging content.
    • Helps create original copy in key annual materials including but limited to annual report, fact sheets, advertising campaigns, organizational brochures, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations and video scripts.
    • Helps create copy for paid media across all channels and audiences working closely with Director of Marketing and Brand Strategy.
    • At times using interview notes, or interviewing neighbors at pantries or programs in English or Spanish, help gather details for stories through respectful and empathetic interactions and help write the content.
    • Support Marketing and HR teams on internal communications to Food Bank team, in English and Spanish
    • Serve as proofreader across team for communication materials and signage.
    • Help aide in writing content in English and in Spanish (when needed) or translating other communications created by MVP team.
    • Responsible for gathering content and creating presentations for internal newsletters and slideshows
    • Works to help create, update and maintain Editorial Style Guide with Graphic Designer and Director of Marketing and Brand Strategy for all internal stakeholders to follow.
    • Help steward the brand messaging that reflects NIFB’s mission and values.
    • Fulfill occasional speaking requests, including at community meetings, school presentations or media.
    • Conducts administrative activities as needed, such as handling invoices, maintaining records and reports.
    • Support Marketing team handling SMS/Mobile text messaging as needed
    • Assist with all stages of editorial content and production as assigned

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in in Journalism, Communications, English or a related field.
  • Full-time experience in copy or creative writing role for an organization, agency or publication.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Fluency in verbal and written Spanish is required.
  • Ability to collaborate across all stages of content creation
  • Accustomed to writing under tight deadlines and balancing multiple writing projects simultaneously.
  • Strong writer with working knowledge of AP style.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Flexibility/adaptability
  • Strong initiative, organization and time management skills

Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and write/type. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, handle/touch food items or boxes, or reach with hands and arms.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position located in our Geneva office. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.; with occasional evening or weekend hours required. A hybrid schedule with a combination of remote and in-office work days can be discussed but a minimum of 3 days a week in office is required.

Travel Regional travel throughout our 13-county service area may be needed for this position (less than 10%)

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Advertising agency experience a plus
  2. Experience working in a non-profit setting
