Job Description

The NAU Director of Clery Compliance works collaboratively with various offices at the University to ensure the institution's compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and associated regulations. Serves as the institution's designated "Campus Safety Survey Administrator," as defined in U.S. Department of Education correspondence.

Compilation, classification and publication of crimes and disciplinary referral data – 35%

  • Ensures compliance with the daily crime and fire log requirements.
  • Gathers crime and disciplinary referral data from various internal and external sources, such as the Dean of Students, Extended Campuses, and appropriate law enforcement agencies.
  • Prepares, publishes, and distributes the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report for each defined separate campus.
  • Ensures notices announcing the availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report are properly developed and available to prospective students and prospective employees.
  • Works with the NAU Police Department Records Division to ensure proper classification and count of crime incident reports.
  • Submits annual crime statistics to the U.S. Department of Education, as required.

Coordinates the institution’s Clery Act compliance program and develops Clery compliance policies and procedures – 25%

  • In conjunction with the applicable offices, develops and implements Clery Act required policies, programs, and activities.
  • Establishes Clery Act compliance programs at each separate campus.
  • Ensures the institution maintains accurate records on security awareness and crime prevention programs and presentations.
  • Collaborates with the Dean of Students and/or Human Resources when needed to ensure compliance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act regulations.
  • Stays abreast of pending and final changes to the Clery Act and other laws or regulations affecting Clery Act provisions.
  • Works with various institutional offices to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Violence Against Women Act.
  • Coordinates with Contracting and Purchasing office to maintain an accurate list of buildings and properties owned and/or controlled by the institution.
  • Coordinates with the appropriate campus departments to ensure compliance with HEA Fire Safety regulations.

Identifies and trains all Campus Security Authorities and institutional stakeholders on Clery Act Requirements – 20%

  • Works with the appropriate University Departments to identify all Campus Security Authorities for the institution and maintains a list of them for each year.
  • Provides, facilitates, or manages the training of Campus Security Authorities.
  • Coordinates with all Campus Security Authorities to ensure the timely receipt of all crime statistic data.

Ensures compliance with Emergency Notification and Timely Warning requirements of the Clery Act – 10%

  • Collaborates with the Office of Emergency Management and Office of Public Relations to ensure compliance with the Emergency Notification and Timely Warning requirements of the Clery Act.

Compliance and Reporting – 5%

  • Prepare and complete analytical and statistical reports and memos as required for accreditation compliance and reporting purposes.

Other – 5%

  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Higher Education Administration, Law or another related field AND
  • Three years of experience with Clery Act compliance, other federal act compliance, and/or public service-related accreditation processes.
  • Possession of valid Arizona Class D driver’s license upon employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or other advanced degree in Communications, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Higher Education Administration, Law or another related field.
  • Experience with drafting and publishing an Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.
  • Advanced Clery Act Training.
  • Familiarization with other related topics to include but not limited to Title IX, VAWA, Uniform Crime Reporting, and the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Regulations.
  • Three years or more of work experience with an institution of Higher Education.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time, skilled in effective time management and resource utilization, and able to adapt quickly to changing situations that may adversely affect previous plans, schedules, and routines.

Driving Requirement

Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases), polygraph examination and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Anticipated salary range is $98,000 - $106,000. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
