Job Description
This position leads the Campus Services & Activities (CSA) Functional Support unit which includes the JacksCard Office, the Central Ticket Office, and a team of full-time and student staff. The director is charged with overall management and support of a variety of edge computing Point of Sale and IT systems across campus including but not limited to EMS event management, Fusion, and Touchnet. This position works very closely with many other divisions across the university including Information Technology and Student Affairs to support the university's goals and improve student experience while also collaborating and integrating with our external service partners to maintain seamless operations in the campus
auxiliary areas.
Oversee Operational Areas - 30%
  • Ensure exceptional customer service from multiple student and community facing units.
  • Oversee systems, vendor performance, and strategy for multiple high impact offices that are integral to the student experience.
  • Create and implement best practices/procedure for compliance with financial controls pursuant to industry standards and University/comptroller policy.
  • Direct creation of analytics, reports, and financial forecasts to inform resource allocation.
  • Provide leadership for full-time staff as well as a part time and student worker IT staff and oversee unit budgets.
  • Create policy and operational standards.
  • Coach, mentor and direct a diverse team of customer service, IT and financial professionals.
  • Collaborate with vendors and other University departments to ensure operational excellence.
Manage projects and implement solutions - 30%
  • Oversee implementation and maintenance of technical and financial systems used by multiple departments.
  • Direct and/or provide guidance for complex cross-divisional technology projects.
  • Applies expertise to oversee, design, and implement: data integrations, workflows, processes, application development, web service tools.
  • Determine University resource allocation, strategic direction, ensure information security, and evaluate enterprise edge systems for the Campus Services and Activities department.
  • Follows higher education auxiliary and IT trends and directs implementation of applicable innovations.
Manage a Variety of Systems for End Users - 20%
  • Directs professional staff work/priorities to align with overall goals of the department with an emphasis on customer service, information security, and financial regulation compliance.
  • Meets with end users and other operational directors and staff to help navigate software and hardware challenges and serve as a liaison and advocate with NAU Information Technology staff for enterprise edge systems.
  • Meets with vendors on a regular basis to evaluate system performance, make suggestions for improvements, and evaluate options for the department.
  • Assists in departmental planning for large expenditures including technology hardware and software upgrades as well as regular evaluations of current system effectiveness versus alternate products available on the market.
Collaborate with End-Users and Service Partners - 15%
  • Work directly with end-users in multiple divisions and as a part of service contracts to understand the needs of the areas and find solutions that are in place or available from auxiliary vendors for minimal cost.
  • Lead the Functional Support team in developing documentation and systems reference for end-user troubleshooting and staff training.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree or PhD in related field.
  • 3-5 years of management experience.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Or, any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience as an administrator of typical computing systems used in the campus auxiliary areas.
    • Experience in point of sale system management, card office operations, or campus ticketing operations.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
      Knowledge:
      • Comprehensive understanding of principles of payment processing including PCI standards, application integrations and best practices in the campus auxiliary field.
      • Knowledge of data integration technologies such as API's and SDK's.
      • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and other cloud platform environments.
      • Knowledge of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) data principles and tools such as Azure data factory and SSIS.
      • Knowledge of programming and scripting languages such as .NET, python, PowerShell.
      • Knowledge of data visualization tool such as PowerBI and Tableau.
      Skills:
      • IT project management to deploy vendor supplied and custom developed solutions.
      • Development of technical back-end processes including testing and implementation of process improvements.
      • Utilization of databases including writing and optimizing SQL queries, designing database schemas, and monitoring/managing database performance utilizing tools such as SQL Server Management Studio.
      • Development of comprehensive IT roadmaps that align with multiple Campus Services units goals and objectives.
      • Implementation of IT governance strategy pursuant to university security best practices.
      • Collaboration with unit directors, managers to identify, develop and implement technical solutions based on operational needs.
      Abilities:
      • Leadership of diverse group of operations, IT and financial professionals.
      • Maintains positive working cross divisional relationships.
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
      • Customer Service skills including conflict resolution.
      • Analyzes complex situations and anticipates issues.
      Background Information
      This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.       Salary
      Salary range begins at $96,000. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
      FLSA Status
      This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
      Benefits
      This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
