Northeastern State University is Hiring an Optometry Near Tahlequah, OK

Optometry Resident

It is Northeastern State University’s policy that all newly hired employees must provide an original social security card during the hiring process.

Residency programs are available at Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry (NSUOCO) and at external sites located throughout Oklahoma, as well as several out-of-state sites including Fayetteville, Arkansas, Springfield, Missouri, and Amarillo, Texas.

Each residency program has a primarily clinical emphasis. NSUOCO Residency Programs provide the resident with the opportunity to gain clinical experience and expertise in one or more areas of specialization within optometry.

Residents typically choose to pursue one primary clinical interest and one or two secondary clinical interests. Areas of emphasis include :

Family Practice Optometry

Ocular Disease

Cornea and Contact Lenses

Low Vision Rehabilitation

Refractive and Ocular Surgery

Primary Eye Care

Each residency program provides advanced clinical training for post-graduate optometrists in one or more areas of emphasis.

Many residency programs include advanced procedures and laser therapy for the anterior segment. In addition to providing direct patient care, residents may participate in grand rounds, ophthalmological observation, and hospital rotations.

A regularly scheduled residency seminar promotes literature review and study. Teaching is another important aspect of this program, with opportunities to become involved in didactic and clinical education of optometry students, optometrists, and other health care providers.

The 12-month residency begins July 1 and ends June 30. Expected weekly hours of duty are typically 40 hours per week. Attendance of continuing education may lengthen the weekly hours of duties.

ORMatch and NSUOCO deadlines are January 31st. All residency applications will be reviewed without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.

Residency applicants must have a Doctor of Optometry degree from an ACOE-accredited school or college of optometry and must have successfully completed Part I, Part II, Part III, and TMOD of the NBEO examination by July 1 of the residency year.

Grade-point average, NBEO scores, letters of recommendation, and personal interviews are taken into account when consider
