Accounting Intern Job Description

NOPEC is an energy aggregation that buys electricity and natural gas in bulk for over 200 Ohio communities. Position: Accounting Intern

Office location: 31360 Solon Road, Suite 33

Solon, OH 44139

*This is an onsite role, with some possible remote work. Candidates must be located within daily commute distance of Solon, OH location.

Description: NOPEC seeks an enthusiastic, hard-working accounting intern to assist in our financial and compliant efforts within our organization.

Compensation: NOPEC is committed to providing a competitive wage. Pay level will be established as part of the interview process.

Duration: The successful candidate will be expected to work a thirty-two-hour work week for a period that will be determined based on the candidate’s availability established during the interview. Those hours may be flexed depending on NOPEC staff availability and previous candidate commitments.

We are looking for a driven Accounting Intern with a basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other financial related principles and terms who is ready for an immersive, real-world experience. Under the supervision of our staff, the Accounting Intern can expect to participate in the fundamental processes of accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), and the preparation of journal entries including their impact on the basic financial reports. The Accounting Intern will also analyze actual financial data, learn more about bookkeeping software, and assist with other accounting activities.

To be a strong candidate for an Accounting Internship, you should be a positive, motivated team player who possesses an understanding of basic accounting and financial principles and functions. You will need to maintain a high degree of accuracy in your work and be receptive to feedback.

This position could lead to a full-time offer for the right candidate.

Accounting Intern Responsibilities:

  • Shadowing members of the accounting department as they perform their duties.
  • Assisting with research, filing, data entry, and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records.
  • Working with Sage/Intacct accounting software, enter and process various financial data, including reconciliations and reports.
  • Handling sensitive or confidential information with honesty and integrity.
  • Learning how to work as part of the accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support both internal and external clients.
  • Taking on additional tasks or projects to learn more about accounting and office operations.

Accounting Intern Requirements:

  • Must be a recent graduate or actively working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting from an accredited college Strongly Preferred
  • Satisfactory completion of introductory accounting courses and a basic understanding of accounting and financial principles.
  • A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Aptitude for math, proficiency with computers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and responsibility required.
  • Motivation and a strong desire to take on new challenges desired.
  • A strong preference of someone in their last year of college or recent Graduate

Position Details: 

  • Start Date – No later than June 1st
  • Pay $18/hourly
  • Must have flexibility to be compatible with department during office hours
  • Must have reliable transportation to office
  • Position offer is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background check
