Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency is Hiring a Housing Intake Specialist Near Alpena, MI

Summary of Duties:

Performs intake duties for all Housing Programs including answering the housing intake line and processing intake documents. Communicates with callers and potential clients in a supportive manner. The Housing Intake Specialist will work in cooperation with clients to applicable housing crisis, entry and access assessments, determine what services may be needed, offer resources in the community, collect the necessary paperwork. Multi- county job related travel both within the 11-county service area and to other locations in the state for meetings, workshops, trainings and conferences is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

    • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments for homeless clients in crisis, demonstrating empathy and sensitivity while gathering essential information regarding housing history, mental health status, substance abuse, and other pertinent factors.
    • Complete all applicable housing crises, entry and access assessments on all persons presenting as homeless or at risk of homeless both in person and over the phone.
    • Input data into Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and EmpowOR to track household demographics, services provided, and housing outcomes.
    • Facilitate strengths-based conversations with households that explore opportunities and identify resources to divert households from entering emergency shelters.
    • Assist individuals and families in identifying immediate alternate housing arrangements and, if necessary, connections with services and financial assistance
    • Assist households in obtaining vital documents.
    • Compile and process intake documents.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of the regulations and guidelines for each housing program as defined by the funding source.
    • Utilize computer-based databases and programs to manage data including the Homeless Management Information System, EmpowOR, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Outlook Email, Excel, Word applications and other assigned programs;
    • Communicate proactively and effectively with clients, co-workers, funding sources, Housing and Client Services Director, Housing Program Supervisor and staff.

What we will love about you:

  • High School Diploma/GED and college coursework with emphasis in computers or business with 3 years experience utilizing Microsoft Office programs including: Word, Excel and Assess with extensive database knowledge and working with data verification is required.
  • Associates degree and experience and working in a statewide database is preferred.
