    Position Title: Communications Coordinator
    Position Reports to: Superintendent
    FTE: 1.0 (260 days)
    Salary Range: $75,316 - $94,161
    Expected Starting Date: ASAP
    Nature of Work:
    Incumbents coordinate communication strategies for an assigned area or program in addition to performing activities such as marketing and community relations. As assigned, incumbents perform high level technical functions in a variety of public relations areas including production, marketing communications, developing communication strategies, internal communications, developing strategies for maintaining and updating websites, and website content development. Responsibilities may include serving as a liaison with external agencies; preparing technical documents; performing technical media or communications tasks; coordinating with staff to ensure effective outreach; and planning and managing special events. This position is responsible for developing and delivering effective communications through public relations and various media outlets.
    Typical Class Responsibilities:
    • Coordinates the development, design and dissemination of communications materials, including stories, graphics, and photos for newsletters, news releases, annual reports, communications to students and staff, social media platforms, and websites; work may also involve coordinating with staff, departments, and programs to facilitate the development and dissemination of communications materials. Serves as a liaison with the District and media outlets by serving as the first point of contact and coordinates media responses, interviews and other media related assignments.
    • Monitors all communciation channels including, but not limited to, email, Twitter and Facebook and responds to messages, or relays them to appropropriate District personnel, in a timely manner.
    • Coordinates with departments, programs and staff to determine and evaluate communication goals, key messages, and target audiences for website content, various communication mediums; measures progress on tasks, projects, and goals; monitors accuracy and consistency of internal and external website content and maintains content, including the approval of any changes.
    • Researches, drafts, proofreads, edits, and reviews written materials when assigned including digital content, graphics, reports, newsletters, and press releases. Work may involve assisting managers, directors and Superintendent with writing and editing communications and promotional materials.
    • Creates and disseminates messages sent through Mailchimp and School Messanger.
    • Prepares and/or maintains the annual and other reports, records, documents, and other materials; work may involve researching information, and using specialized knowledge to display, analyze, and modify information.
    • Manages a budget for assigned work area; forecasts equipment, material expenses, and anticipated revenue for budget planning; monitors and controls expenditures; and allocates resources to projects.
    • Assists with development of materials related to District’s legislative work.
    • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
    Training and Experience Requirements:
    Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related area; and 3-5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Knowledge Requirements:
    • Principles and practices of journalism, media, public relations, community engagement, and crisis and internal communications;
    • Principles and practices of online communications including web content strategy and social media;
    • Principles and practices of professional writing and editing;
    • Research methods, web research, and fact checking;
    • Style guides;
    • Proper English grammar, proofreading marks, editorial style guides and graphics standards;
    • Best practices and emerging technologies;
    • Customer service principles;
    • Applicable work rules and policies;
    • Modern office equipment, computers and related software applications;
    • Project management methods;
    • Customer service and vendor relationship principles;
    • Use of Content Management System and other applicable applications including Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, etc.), Google Drive, PDF Management, video editing software and captioning service.

    • Providing project management, organization and logistics;
    • Coordinating deadlines and prioritizing competing demands;

    • Providing attention to detail;
    • Utilizing a computer, relevant software applications, and/or other equipment, as assigned; and
    • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information;
    • Using applicable software applications and programs;
    • Applying user interface designs;
    • Dissemination of information to appropriate parties;
    • Effective communication to establish credibility and create a favorable public image with media, officials, and the general public;
    • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
    Physical Requirements:
    Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
    Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
