North Wind Group is Hiring a Remote Project Chemist/Data Validator 03319 NWSS

North Wind Site Services is focused on providing engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions response (MMRP), regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and records and facility management.
POSITION PURPOSE:

The staff scientist provides technical support to engineering, ESH&Q, and QA. He/she provides reports on the accuracy and quality of data for usability. The staff scientist provides data validation services for PFAS, organic, inorganic, and radioanalytical results for bioassay, environmental monitoring, and environmental remediation. The staff scientist provides field and document support to the engineering and ESH&Q departments. Finally, he/she provides a technical review of work documents and related project files at the discretion of the project manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exhibit understanding and comprehension of various preparation and analytical methods for PFAS, organic and inorganic analyses.
  • Review environmental laboratory data in an organized and concise manner, consistent with and as prescribed by corporate, U.S. EPA, and Department of Defense (DOD) data validation standard operating procedures, DOD validation modules, quality assurance project plans, and published analytical methods.
  • Review environmental laboratory data for completeness and verify data compliance against approved analytical methods.
  • Familiarity with the DOD Quality Systems Manual (QSM).
  • Write technical reports for the verification and validation of environmental data.
  • Perform instrumental data interpretation and review.
  • Perform recalculation and re-quantification checks required for Stage 3 and Stage 4 data validation, including use of raw instrument response data for assessing target analytes and calibration curves.
  • Interact with analytical laboratories and other clients.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree chemistry, biology or in related scientific discipline required.
  • At least one year of experience in data validation or data quality assurance.
  • At least one year of experience in environmental sampling procedures.

  • Communicates clearly and concisely in speech and writing.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to unspoken meaning and nonverbal cues.
  • Facilitates communication across the organization and effectively interfaces with customer, contractor, and site personnel on a daily basis.
  • Superior attention to detail and the ability to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Requires the ability to both collaborate and to take initiative and work well independently.
  • Requires moderate interpersonal skills in dealing with others to ensure that customer requests or needs are met. Must acknowledge and clarify customer inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented and addressed.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Requires an understanding of an array of protocols including: U.S. EPA Contract Laboratory Program, SW-846 methodologies, U.S. EPA Functional Guidelines for Validating Data, and Department of Energy (DOE) site-specific procedures.


Special Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be required to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Applicants are required to have REAL ID ACT compliant documentation at time of hire and nothing on record that would prohibit you from gaining access to Department of Energy or Department of Defense sites.
  • Ability to work overtime, as needed.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or related scientific discipline.
  • Preferred experience working on DOE and DOD projects.
  • Working knowledge of EPA Draft Method 1633 and associated DOD Data Validation Guidelines Module 6 for PFAS by DOD QSM Table B-24.
  • Familiarity with the EQuIS Data Qualification Module (DQM).
  • Familiarity with FUDSChem Automated Data Review (ADR).


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be sitting for long periods of time in an office environment, but will also be required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee is often required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The majority of work is conducted indoors. The employee may be exposed to chemical and biological hazards. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
