Located along the banks of the mighty Columbia River, just 84 miles east of Portland, The Dalles is the eastern gateway to the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Outdoor enthusiasts find the Gorge to be a perfect environment to pursue wind, snow, and whitewater sports, road and mountain biking, hunting, fishing, hiking, golf and more! Serving as a center of Native American trade for over 10,000 years and the end of the Oregon Trail, history buffs will find the area steeped in history and culture. The Dalles has a quaint and historic small town feel, with a population just over 13,000. Boasting a mere 14 inches of rain annually, The Dalles is home to bountiful agricultural products, including world-renowned cherries, grapes and wheat. It is home to Columbia Gorge Community College, which offers the first wind-power training program in the Pacific Northwest, Google’s Data Center, numerous orchards, vineyards, wineries, craft breweries and a thriving business community.

  5. Copy of Unofficial College Transcripts

Job Purpose Statement/s:

Screen, evaluate and identify eligible students for speech and language services; design and implement appropriate intervention strategies; collect student performance data and establish and maintain a daily schedule. Supervise communication assistants as necessary. Provide information relative to communication disorders to students, parents, teachers and significant others.

Job Qualifications & Licensure:

  • Master’s Degree or higher degree (required) with a major in one or more of the following areas: Speech Pathology or Communication Disorders and Sciences

  • Possess a valid Oregon Teaching license with a Special Education Endorsement for teaching of speech and language impaired or Oregon Board of Examiners license, or Certification from Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC)

  • A valid Oregon Teaching license with a Special Education Endorsement for teaching of Speech and Language Impaired 

    OR Oregon Board of Examiners license in Speech-Language Pathology

  • Ability to obtain Oregon Board of Examiners permit to supervise SLPA’s

  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds.

  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons.

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities

  • Screen, evaluate and identify eligible students for speech and language services

  • Design and implement appropriate intervention strategies, including a broad array of service delivery model including application of technology

  • Provide information relative to communication disorders to students, parents, teachers and others as appropriate

  • Collaborate with teachers and parents regarding program content and intervention services

  • Collect student performance data and establish and maintain a daily schedule

  • Monitor the effectiveness of the intervention

  • Implement requirements of Federal and State regulations

  • Maintain records and reports required by District, State and Federal agencies

  • Cooperate with various agencies in referring and providing appropriate reciprocal services

  • Analyze and forecast need for services

  • Provide services either directly or through consultation as listed on the students IEP.

  • Write IEP goals and objectives as necessary for the student on an IEP who has speech and language disabilities

  • Participate as an effective team member of the Student Study Team

  • Train, schedule, and direct assigned communication assistants to maximize delivery of services

  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment

Please Note: In addition, each individual employed full-time (1.0 FTE) in that capacity shall receive a stipend for each school year in the amount of three thousand ($3,000) dollars. Less than full-time employees working more than half-time (.50 FTE) shall receive a prorated stipend based on their full-time equivalency.

Any offer of employment made by North Wasco County School District is contingent upon satisfactory results of: 

  1. Drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812. This includes, but is not limited to, marijuana, mind-altering substances or narcotic drugs such as hallucinogens, amphetamines, barbiturates, or any other illegal drug or controlled substance, except those federally recognized as legally prescribed by a physician and used as directed.
  2. Criminal history verification- a background check for any convictions directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position. Unless otherwise required by law, only job-related convictions will be considered and will not automatically disqualify the applicant from employment.
