Department:

Emergency Department

Description:

Provides direct and indirect patient care in the Emergency Department setting. Communicates with physicians, supervisor, and co-workers as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.

  • Serves as a leader and role model in the department.
  • Supports the goals of the department and the facility.
  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care of patient’s age.
  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Follows the six (6) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
  • Promotes a culture of professionalism and team collaboration.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Director/Supervisor, co-workers and physicians.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
  • Facilitates patient flow through the department by demonstrating the following;
    • Charting at the bedside
    • Expediting care by triaging patients in their assigned room
    • Monitor for delays in treatment, testing, and discharge
  • Ensure appropriate utilization of overhead activations
  • Communicate patient, staff, EMS, physician, police, and all other concerns to the department Director in a timely manner
  • Refers to policy when necessary and demonstrates the ability to access Policy Stat
  • Monitors supplies and equipment needs
  • Completes Crash Cart checks every shift
  • Monitors staffing and communicates with House Supervisor as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Requirements:

  • Current license in the state of Texas
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS required.
  • PALS recommended.
  • NIHSS certification within 90 days of hire.
