NORTH SLOPE TELECOM INC is Hiring a Telecom Engineer Near Anchorage, AK

NSTI is an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) firm that designs and installs telecom solutions for our customers using various technologies across the state of Alaska. We specialize in providing solutions to customers in the oil and gas industry on the North Slope of Alaska. We also provide in solutions to customers who operate in rural communities and on remote mountaintop sites. 

NSTI is looking for a Telecom Engineer that can use their expertise to design and oversee the installation of various telecommunication solutions. We work across multiple technologies and provide engineering/design, procurement, project management, and installation services. While this position is based out of Anchorage, Alaska, it can require travel throughout the state. This position will ensure compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC), best practices, and other regulatory requirements associated with electronic and telecommunications.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical EngineeringPreferred
  • 3 plus years telecommunications experience
  • Alaska-registered professional engineer, EIT, electrical administrator with inside or outside communications categories, or other industry-related endorsements are a plus 
  • Oil and gas industry experience or utility experience a plus
  • Working on the North Slope of Alaska or other arctic environments

Essential Functions:

  • Develop engineered solution, scope of work, bill of materials, additional site assessments, environmental studies, surveying, or field support services.
  • Review and/or evaluate proposals or bids to make recommendations regarding responses.
  • Estimate labor, material take-offs, or construction costs for budget preparation.
  • Study job specifications and completed site assessments.
  • Design, implement, or improve electrical or telecom instruments, equipment, facilities, components, or systems for commercial or industrial purposes.
  • Operate computer-assisted engineering or design software or equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Prepare telecommunication schematics and supporting documents to assist others develop, compute, and verify specifications for computer-aided drafting data.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • Practical knowledge of federal, state, and local rules, e.g., FCC, FAA, NEC, NESC; industry, company, and customer standards, e.g., BISCI, EIA/TIA, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with fiber optic and copper structured cabling.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with one or more RF systems, e.g., microwave point-to-point, land mobile radio, satellite.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience working with AutoCAD.
  • Understand the fundamentals of the OSI layers and TCP/IP suite.
  • Ability to provide in-field or remote support in system troubleshooting.
  • Experience designing remote power solutions.
  • Ability to mentor/educate junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Highly motivated, proven self-starter.
  • Professional, efficient, and effective written and oral communication skills
