North Shore Country Day School is Hiring an Upper School Learning Specialist Near Winnetka, IL

Upper School Learning Specialist Position, 2024-25 Academic Year
North Shore Country Day School, a progressive, academically rigorous, co-ed, JK-12 independent school in suburban Chicago, seeks candidates for an Upper School Learning Specialist for the 2023/24 Academic Year. North Shore is eager to consider applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in independent school communities. 
 Qualifications:
-Masters Degree in Education
-Illinois Special Education license or LBS Certificate 9-12
-3 years high school teaching experience with a special education population
-Knowledge of interpreting diagnostic testing evaluations
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills
 
Essential Responsibilities Include:
-Serve as case manager for students identified with learning needs grades 9-12
-Provide individual curricular support, as well as executive function skills development, to students with learning challenges due to learning disabilities, attention issues, social/emotional concerns, or weak organization and study skills
-Teach Study Strategies unit as part of Introduction to Upper School for 9th graders
-Develop formal school plans (Individual Achievement Plan) that detail a student’s learning profile, recommendations for strategies and support, and accommodations 
-Interpret and translate diagnostic testing evaluations for use in creating Individual Achievement Plans to support student learning 
-Partner with faculty to coordinate and implement recommendations and accommodations and to facilitate faculty’s understanding of students’ learning styles
-Support extended time proctoring needs for student assessments during the year and for final exams
-Maintain confidential student records and keep accurate documentation of sessions and meetings
-Communicate with parents through writing individual student narratives that detail student progress, as well as email and phone calls
-Plan and coordinate staffings with parents and faculty to develop a support plan for students that includes strategies, recommendations, and accommodations
-Collaborate with Middle School learning specialist to share information and plan smooth transitions for students to Upper School
-Coordinate referrals with parents for evaluations through local public high school when appropriate
-Maintain a list of outside diagnosticians for referrals for diagnostic evaluations
-Coordinate and manage application process for standardized test accommodations for college entrance exams for both ACT and College Board
-Proctor school-based ACT/SAT assessments on designated testing weekends for students who meet qualifications (usually 6 times/year)
-Provide workshops for parents on the process for applying to ACT and College Board for accommodations
