Job Description:

Special Program Coordinator: Coordinator of Early College Programs

MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 4

Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend hours as required

One position with primary location: Lynn campus

SALARY:Anticipated salary range $57,249.00- $60,000.00 plus fringe benefits. Actual salary is commensurate with experience and education. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Coordinator of Early College Programs will work specifically with students and partners in the Early College programs. The role is committed to facilitating access to higher education and successful accomplishment of student goals. Creates and promotes resources that support and remove barriers to student achievement. Focuses on empowering first-generation and low-income students with an equitable learning experience, anchoring the student as a vital member of the College community. A special emphasis will be placed on English Language Learners. In addition, this position supports other current and prospective NSCC students transitioning from High School into career pathways educational programs. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Postsecondary Programs and the Dean of Postsecondary Transition Programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the work of Early College programs - including outreach, advising, planning, and carrying out student-and-family engagement events and college awareness activities, information sessions, registration sessions, and orientations.
  • Assists the Assist Dean and Dean in managing the partnership's day-to-day operations with the school district partners.
  • Monitors progress and initiates student contact to provide or ensure appropriate academic advising/support/resources.
  • Works collaboratively with School Counselors and related staff at partner school districts to better serve and reach the student population
  • Works collaboratively with program faculty to develop strategies to address individual student needs.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with College offices, community-based organizations, and partner districts to support student needs. Collaborate with support services staff at the college such as Tutoring, Accessibility Services, Advising and Enrollment Services.
  • Collaborates with Early College and Postsecondary Transition Programs staff.
  • Advises students in developing realistic academic goals based on program requirements and connects students to resources available through the College and greater community.
  • Provides referrals and support for students experiencing family, personal, or economic crises which may impact school performance.
  • Maintain confidential data and abide by all laws and policies that govern student privacy.
  • Assists the Executive Director and Dean in report generation and other criteria as outlined by the grant.
  • Assists in developing and providing information about colleges, admissions requirements, financial aid, and career information to students and their families.
  • Prepare and lead orientations and program-related workshops.
  • Responsible for maintaining policies and procedures associated with Early College programs.
  • Maintain confidential data and abide by all laws and policies that govern student privacy.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for students as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Postsecondary Programs and the Dean of Postsecondary Transition Programs.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Assistant Dean of Postsecondary Programs and the Dean of Postsecondary Transition Programs

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with three (3) years of experience and/or training in educational or career counseling, college registration, academic advising, career development, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master's degree preferred.
  • Strongly Encourage Bilingual or Bicultural (Spanish and English).
  • Experience providing direct support to diverse student populations is required, preferably in a social service or higher education setting.
  • A solid commitment to diversity and social justice.
  • Experience working with English Language learners is strongly preferred.
  • Experience advising, counseling and/or teaching in an educational or social service environment.
  • Successful experience working with culturally diverse and/or low-income populations.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology (Learning Management Systems, Banner, Microsoft Office, Social Media).
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle for transportation.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
