Job Description:

Special Program Coordinator, Adult Learning Center

MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 4

Campus Location: Danvers

Work Schedule: 30 hours per week/52 weeks per year

Benefited; Grant-funded

SALARY:Anticipated starting pro-salary for 30 hours per week/52 weeks per year is $46,524.80 - $50,346.40. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Adult Learning Center (ALC) of North Shore Community College, primarily based on the Danvers campus, is funded by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to provide general instruction and College/Career Readiness services to individuals who have not earned a high school diploma. The goal of the program is to provide adults with opportunities to develop the literacy and numeracy skills necessary to qualify for further education, job training and/or better employment. The Special Programs Coordinator will assist with teacher onboarding, curriculum development, lesson plan review and coordination of a new HiSET evening class on the Lynn campus.

The Special Programs Coordinator in the ALC is responsible for planning and implementing instruction for adult learners who are transitioning to college and career. The Special Programs Coordinator will need to be able to:

  • Participate in on-site and off-site training sessions to develop expertise with College and Career Readiness Standard-based curriculum resources
  • Work collaboratively in a team-teaching environment to develop and incorporate lessons from contextualized curriculum into classroom activity
  • Develop and review lesson plans and teaching strategies that accelerate accomplishment of student learning goals within the established Scope & Sequence
  • Engage in monthly evaluation of Scope & Sequence and adjust as needed
  • Serve as a substitute or co-teacher for direct classroom instruction
  • Collaborate with the College and Career Advisors to introduce students to career pathways and additional services that will support their transition to college
  • Commit to DEI principles and the ALC's culture of continuous improvement

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Instructional Activities

  • Prepare and deliver group lessons for classroom instruction in the subject areas of literature, math, science, social studies, and/or writing
  • Document written lesson and unit plans with an established DESE template
  • Utilize and model online curriculum resources; tailor lessons to the specific learning needs of the class
  • Incorporate technology into group and/or individualized curriculum
  • Elevate digital literacy level of all students, staff and volunteer tutors
  • Serve as a coach to new teachers to accelerate onboarding, review lesson plans, and contribute to ongoing ADEI curriculum development
  • Provide one-on-one academic support to students as needed
  • Serve as co-teacher or substitute teacher as needed

Support and Advising

  • Support students on academic matters in consultation with the College & Career Advisors
  • Provide onsite and remote support to the Lynn HiSET Instructors
  • Refer students to other college and community resources as appropriate
  • Establish a safe and supportive classroom and work environment

Administrative

  • Communicate with the ALC Director on a weekly basis
  • Collaborate with the ALC Director on pre and post student evaluation data
  • Conduct follow-up contact with students as needed
  • Assist with student outreach and program delivery on the Lynn campus
  • Coordinate the annual review of the ALC's iterative Scope & Sequence development
  • Other duties as assigned

Professional Development

  • Attend semi-monthly in-house staff meetings and share ideas and resources
  • Attend at least 12 hours of DESE or other relevant, professional development workshops per year
  • Commit to ongoing self-reflection and assessment of teaching effectiveness

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Senior Special Program Coordinator of the Adult Learning Center

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of two years' experience teaching adult learners
  • Demonstrated success teaching to various learning styles
  • Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations
  • Demonstrated understanding of the barriers that challenge adult learners
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize, manage schedules and keep accurate records
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, writing and public speaking skills
  • Ability to work flexible day time and limited evening hours in response to program needs
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
