District Nurse Temporary Limited Duration

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
191 day contract for 2022-23 school year (prorated for the remainder of the school year)


Hiring Full or Part-Time (.5 or .8 FTE)


QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Registered Nurse in Oregon, preferred
  • Bachelors degree or beyond, preferred
  • Experience in school nursing or community health nursing with school aged children preferred
  • Bilingual communication skills and multi-cultural diversity experience preferred

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cares for emergency medical needs of students and staff members. Remains on–call and accessible for emergency care during work hours. Supports District Nurse in COVID tasking including screening, insolation, documentation, screening close contact, send reports to OHA local health authority.
  • As a primary provider of health services, takes care of routine health needs of students and staff, when available in buildings. To this end, develops rapport with students and parents to facilitate communications.
  • Oversees medication administration, and trains staff that will assist in administration of medication according to state regulations.
  • Provides support with COVID staff or student testing, contact tracing, documentation and reports.
  • Develops appropriate protocols to administer specialized health interventions to students with special health care needs, and trains and delegates tasks to designated staff members.
  • Coordinates the collaborations with other health agencies and providers for activities such as, hearing and vision screening and dental health services.
  • Assists school secretaries with Immunization Reports.
  • Orders COVID testing, medical supplies and keeps health rooms adequately stocked.
  • Assists school health committee and administrators in developing school health programs.
  • Participate in the work of health and wellness related committees.
  • Screens and maintains student health records to ensure that immunization and other health requirements are being met.
  • Observe students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
  • Serves as resource to teachers on student health concerns, including COVID protocols.
  • Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matter, as appropriate
  • Visits the homes of students, when necessary.
  • Makes recommendations to the superintendent and principals on health needs of students.
  • Implements district policies and procedures on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases, including COVID-19.
  • Participates in inservice training programs and delivers essential trainings such as Bloodborne Pathogens and First Aid.
  • Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
  • Distributes time equitably among the district’s schools, according to need, age of students, and student enrollment.
  • Other duties as assigned
