Description

It is the driver’s primary responsibility to provide supervision, care, and guidance to residents in their care. The driver provides a positive role model for the residents to emulate and is responsible for teaching a variety of communications, coping, problem solving, and social skills. Ensure agency vehicles are safe and well maintained through weekly safety inspections.

Major job duties and responsibilities include:

Resident Care

• Know where residents are at all times.
• When dropping residents off at appointments, ensure youth are under supervision of another approved adult if not staying with the youth for the entire appointment.
• Ensure that residents are dressed appropriately for weather and activity.
• Provide a level of supervision in the community, on trips and/or other activities that is appropriate to maintain basic level of safety.

Modeling

• Be aware of personal values and the impact those values may have on the youth we work with.
• Convey values that promote responsible personal and social behavior.

Therapeutic Environment

• To ensure that a positive therapeutic environment is maintained through transport.
• Know the purpose and philosophy of the agency and act in accordance with it.
• Demonstrate and promote the values of respect, responsibility and caring.

Resident Medical Needs during Transports

• Ensure resident’s medical needs are met on all transports.
• Complete the medication administration course and administer and monitor medication accordingly.
• Know and follow policy for medical emergencies with residents.
• Be familiar and follow agency procedure to limit the spread of disease.
• Obtain First Aid card and utilize appropriate First Aid procedures when indicated.

Requirements

Must be a responsible, mature, healthy adult able to work with resistant clients and carry out residents care plans and/or treatment plans to meet residents needs.

Individual must be non-judgmental in regards to lifestyle, race and/or economic status of clients.

Must be 21 years old and have a valid Minnesota Drivers License.
