Description

To provide a safe and therapeutic environment for clients participating in outdoor programming associated with Camp North Homes. 

MAJOR JOB DUTIES (JOB SPECIFIC)

Safety First Operations

  • Maintain the safety of all youth, participants and staff through adherence to Camp North Homes policies and procedures, good judgement and adhering to the guidelines of any certifications (NASP, ARC Lifeguarding, ETC.) facilitators are operating under.
  • Promptly complete all necessary paperwork as outlined in Camp North Homes policies and procedures manual. Ensure paperwork is given to Camp Director or the appropriate staff member.
  • Clearly communicate expectations, directions, responsibilities and limitations (ie what uncertified staff can NOT be in charge of) to all non-facilitating adults or staff. Orient non-facilitating staff to use camp appropriately in order to make it safely accessible.
  • Manage behaviors, communication and interactions to maintain a physically and emotionally safe facilitation environment for all. 

Facilitator Responsibilities 

  • Prepare lesson plans, backup activities and station materials/equipment in advance of a group’s arrival. Be responsible to ensure materials are in good working order, put away and secured after use. Any items needing repair should be removed from circulation, labeled with the issue and needs communicated to the Camp Director.
  • Adequately plan activities to account for a wide range of experience levels, ages, abilities and the changing variables of facilitating in a Camp setting (weather, for example.)
  • Organize and coordinate structured outdoor recreational activities and special outings. Advocate for special outings when deemed appropriate. 
  • Suggest and develop new camp activities to grow programming options of Camp North Homes. Clearly communicate new activity suggestions to Camp Director before facilitating them to ensure they meet Camp North Home’s mission.
  • When appropriate, plan special events at Camp such as birthdays, holidays, recognition ceremonies, etc.
  • Coordinate spiritual opportunities and other community resources.
  • Develop a system to motivate and reward skill building and acquisition including a graduation or final ceremony to celebrate accomplishments.

Property Management

  • Adhere to or update effective systems for equipment organization, proper usage and maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory in accordance with programming needs and budget. Maintain the care of all equipment and activity materials.
  • Communicate property needs and requests promptly and clearly.
  • Oversee the arrangement of transportation and food service needs for programming when needed.

All Other Duties As Assigned

Other duties may be assigned to this position periodically depending on the needs of the agency and/or Human Resources Director.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

High school diploma or GED. Previous experience in the areas of recreational programming and overall residential activities operations is desirable.

Individual must be non-judgmental in regards to lifestyle, race and/or economic status of clients.

Must be 18 years old and have a valid Minnesota Drivers License.
