In accordance with House Bill 3, the ranges above include additional compensation for classroom teachers with more than five (5) years of experience.
All salary ranges are adopted annually by the Board of Trustees. The District ensures salary placement for new hires will be based on verified years of experience according to the Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service . These ranges should not be used to project salary amounts for subsequent years.
In addition, teachers and librarians may qualify for the following stipends:
Advanced Degree Stipends
Performance and Other Supplemental Stipends
Bilingual & ESL Stipends

EDUCATION :
Bachelors Degree
One year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
CERTIFICATION:
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate by the State Board for Educator Certification with endorsement in area of all level Deaf or Deaf/Hard of Hearing (To include successful completion of the current signing proficiency test)
High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Provide specially designed instruction for students identified with an auditory impairment. This may include the development or modification of curriculum, preparation of lessons and other instructional materials, and implementation of accommodations to provide each student access to a free and appropriate public education. The teacher may work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborates with students, parents and other members of staff to develop the Individualized Education Program (IEP) through the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee process for students with auditory impairments.
2. Implements an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for students with auditory impairments and shows written evidence of preparation as required.
3. Assesses communication skills, competencies, and instructional needs for students with auditory impairments.
4. Exhibits competency in the recommended communication models used by the students with auditory impairments.
5. Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflects understanding the learning styles and needs of students with auditory impairments.
6. Works cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assists students with auditory impairments in regular classes with assignments.
7. Participates in ARD committee meetings on a regular basis.
8. Conducts assessment of student learning styles and uses results to plan for instructional activities.
9. Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP.
10. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of students with auditory impairments.
11. Plans and supervises assignment for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
12. Uses technology in teaching/learning process.
13. Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
14. Provides or supervises personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP.
15. Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
16. Be a positive role model for students; supports mission of the school district.
17. Creates classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students with auditory impairments.
18. Manages student behavior and administers discipline to include intervening in crisis situations and physically restraining students as necessary according to IEP.
19. Consults district and outside resource individuals regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
20. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
21. Assists in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
22. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
23. Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
24. Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
25. Participates in staff development activities to improve job related skills.
26. Keeps informed of and complies with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
27. Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required.
28. Attends periodic AI team meetings designed for the NEISD program that supports students with auditory impairments.
29. Collaborates with the program coordinator for services for students with auditory impairments.
30. Maintains confidentiality of information.
31. Reports to work on time every day.
32. Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to adjust and be flexible to a multitude of situations as they occur
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to concentrate, interpret policy and procedures, reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, memorize, read, coordinate, compile, compute, instruct, and maintain emotional control
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
  • Valid Class "B" Texas Driver’s License (Commercial) with a driving record that meets the requirements of the District - Employee must meet the standards set by the Texas Education Agency, Department of Transportation and the Texas Department of Public Safety (This requirement is for those teachers assigned supplemental duties that require transporting students in District vehicles)
