Overview:

The primary role of the parent coordinator is to assist families in obtaining necessary support to enable their children with mental health needs to live at home and in the community.

Responsibilities:

• Provide support and education to parents.
• Attend meetings at the request of parents.
• Assist parents to understand their child's mental health needs
• Assist parents to become involved in a support network.
• Assist parents to receive training on how to advocate for their children
• Assist families to locate formal and informal services and supports
• Assist families to access information on their rights and responsibilities
• Provide debriefing after meetings to insure understanding of the discussions and decisions made, and process emotions brought about by the experience.

Job Requirements:

The position of parent coordinator requires personal experiences with child welfare, mental health, courts and school systems in advocating for the rights and appropriate services for children with emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges, effective communication skills, and successful experience in working with children with emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges and their families. Diplomacy, tact and collaboration building skills and assertiveness are necessary as well as team spirit and practice. The parent coordinator must be the parent of a child with an emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges.

Pay: $35,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
