NORTH CENTRAL OHIO EDUCATIONAL SERVICE CENTER is Hiring a Gifted Consultant Near Tiffin, OH

Job Summary Under general direction, supports districts and agencies in data-analysis and development of system-wide gifted education programming. Works collaboratively with district leadership and support staff in complying with policy and reporting requirements. Develops written education and acceleration plans (WEP/WAP) and provides guidance and support to administrators and teachers to ensure quality instruction and assessment related efforts. Creates and provides ongoing professional development, support, resources, and instructional tools to increase leadership and educator effectiveness and ultimately supports the achievement and growth of the gifted learner.

Primary Duties

  • Partners with school leaders and agencies to collect and analyze gifted program, achievement, and growth related data (i.e., national, state, vendor, and/or local) from a variety of sources, to identify strengths and areas for growth to support system-wide decision-making. Evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of district initiatives and programs
  • Coordinates the delivery of gifted education services, while ensuring that each student receives appropriate educational and support services in alignment with the mission and instructional goals of the ESC
  • Monitors school/campus compliance with legislative and/or grant requirements relating to the provision of educational services to gifted students. Initiates corrective action as necessary. Serves as a resource to ESC staff, parents, and community agencies
  • Ensures required documents, including but not limited to, the district gifted identification plan and gifted education policy are accurate and accessible to parents
  • Works collaboratively with district leadership and support staff in the ongoing reporting of data to the Ohio Department of Education
  • Coordinates individual and group assessments to evaluate and identify students as gifted in accordance with state requirements. Notifies parents of gifted education in a timely manner and consistent with requirements/policies
  • Facilitates the placement of students within gifted and talented programs. Provides guidance, consultation, and support to teachers in the development of work plans to academically enrich gifted students
  • Attends student meetings and parent conferences to assist with the development of gifted education plans and ensure that each student receives appropriate educational and enrichment opportunities
  • Collaborates with school/campus staff and parents to develop written education and acceleration plans (WEP, WAP, etc.) to ensure that each student receives appropriate enrichment opportunities
  • Consults in the creation, adaptation, distribution, and evaluation of materials/resources for providing differentiated and advanced placement instruction aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards and consistent with best practices in gifted education
  • Plans and delivers relevant, timely, small and large group professional development, aligned to high-quality professional development standards and district/agency needs. Coordinates training for school/campus’ advanced placement teachers. Creates and organizes necessary resources to support professional development
  • Co-plans, co-teaches, and/or models specific classroom activities, lessons, and/or strategies when appropriate
  • Partners with the district to ensure innovative scheduling and course opportunities to meet the needs of advanced and gifted learners (i.e., subject acceleration, grade acceleration, compacting curriculum, advanced courses, AP courses, etc.)
  • Partners with the ESC and districts, as requested, to administer and/or support teacher evaluation processes, which may include: coaching/feedback, formal and informal observations, walkthroughs, conferences, and collaboration around final performance ratings
  • Responds to district, building, ESC, and/or agency needs in a timely, efficient manner and reliably upholds commitments. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
  • Attends and engages in various ESC meetings, as requested (i.e., consultant/gifted meetings, school leader meetings, professional development, etc.)
  • Engages in continued learning, research, and networking opportunities to deepen knowledge, skills, and expertise
  • Collaborates with colleagues on assigned projects and initiatives to ensure a cohesive approach in supporting districts and/or agencies
  • Participates in and/or leads state, regional, district, and/or agency related committees, projects, meetings, and/or events
  • Prepares and submits reports to administrators, grant sponsors, and regulatory agencies (i.e., ODE, OHSAA, etc.) where required. Maintains relationships with regulatory officials to obtain information relevant to the school/campus. Oversees the review and incorporation of new and updated regulatory information into operations activities
  • Utilizes and maintains databases for ESC operational procedures. Gathers and organizes documents to satisfy public records requests or other reporting obligations
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance

Promotes a favorable image of the NCOESC.Encourages community partnerships that enhance NCOESC programs and services

  • Upholds governing board policies and follows administrative procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • Master’s degree in education or related field
  • Valid Ohio teaching license and endorsement in gifted education
  • Hold an Ohio administrative specialist license, if supervising teachers
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience
  • Strong knowledge of Ohio Gifted Operating Standards and Ohio’s Learning Standards
  • Knowledgeable of gifted teaching principles and best practices
  • Strong relationship building, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to: Administrators, Teachers, Colleagues, Support Staff, Students, Parents/Guardians, and Community members
  • Ability to deliver effective and engaging small and large group presentations
  • Ability to provide encouragement and emotional support to school leaders and staff
  • Ability to remain up to date with current events and technologies in business and post-secondary sectors
  • Ability to maintain a schedule and efficiently multitask on a daily basis
  • The employee shall remain free of alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substances in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the NCOESC
  • Proficiency with use of technology hardware and basic software (i.e., Microsoft office), email, and office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, scanner, telephone, etc.). Proficiency with web-based applications (i.e., Google Docs, ODE website, social media, etc.), and platforms/databases (i.e., Cambium Test Portal, DASL, EMIS, TIDE, etc.)
  • Ability to preserve confidentiality of student information and records

Clearances Criminal justice fingerprint/background (FBI/BCI), and public health clearances.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Performance of duties requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking and hearing. This job requires occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping and feeling, engagement in repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Performance of primary duties takes place in a school environment with occasional exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Frequent light physical effort required.
