Condon is a proud, century-old farming community nestled between miles of rolling, golden wheat fields in Eastern Oregon. We are located on the high plateau of the Columbia River Region just 38 miles south of the mighty Columbia River, less than 3 hours east of Portland, 2 hours west of Pendleton, and 2.5 hours north of Bend. Our School District is seeking applicants for the Dean of Students and High School Guidance Program.

The Position is "Open Until Filled"

Supervised by: Superintendent or Designee

Work Year: Assigned by Superintendent

Job Purpose Statement:

The job of "Dean of Students" is done for the purpose/s of providing overall student management and dealing with student attendance issues. The Guidance work will support students with their post-secondary planning, and academic success. Other administrative needs and processes may also be assigned.

Job Qualifications: Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree or higher degree (required) with a major in one or more of K-12 educational disciplines.
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with community support agencies.
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job.
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required

  • Valid Oregon Teaching License Content Subject Endorsed
  • Endorsed in areas of assigned teaching: High School Language Arts, Math, Advanced Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology Social Studies, Science, World Languages, Physical Education, Ag Science, Counseling, CTE eligible.
  • Holds and maintains an appropriate license and endorsement(s) from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon; and displays a willingness to teach any qualified subject area.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
  • Valid Drivers License and evidence of insurability
  • Successfully pass district background screening

  • Skills to communicate positively and effectively to students, parents, and staff; and
    appropriately intervene in emergency or potentially critical situations, use English in both
    written and verbal form, communicate effectively with persons of varied educational and

  • Knowledge of policies and practices of the school with regard to truancy and discipline.
    Working knowledge of the computer programs that support student services.
  • Abilities to work in a positive manner with people who are in an adversarial situation.
  • The ability to carry out oral and written instructions, work independently with minimal supervision, maintain firm but courteous attitude toward individuals, maintain written records.

Essential Job Functions

  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Follow site and/or District protocol for reporting absences.
  • Maintain current licenses and/or certificates required for the position.
  • Clearly and consistently teaches behavior expectations for students and appropriately intervenes and applies The Code of Conduct and District Policy, including suspensions and pre-expulsion.
  • Assist staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations and assist in the planning, developing, and implementing of individual student behavior plans and intervention strategies.
  • Assist students and parents in post-secondary plans and graduation requirements.
  • Promote an orderly school environment and adhere to state, district, and federal laws and guidelines to keep students healthy and safe.
  • Apply data to support students, maintain accurate records, and possess knowledge of various types of interventions (e.g. 504s, Behavior Support Plans, student attendance and so forth)
  • Engage in and assist with ongoing professional development and is knowledgeable about legal and ethical issues.
  • Communicate effectively with all populations and seek input from others in decision making.
  • Seek appropriate leadership roles and collaborate with others to ensure student and school growth.
  • Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues.
  • Assist with monitoring and supervision of school facilities.
  • Assist in organizing school wide assessment and improving student success.
  • Assist with school-wide systems and community outreach events that support student success.
  • Other duties as assigned by school administrator.
