Position Announcement: Natural Resource Specialist

The North Central Conservation District, Inc. (NCCD) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the sound use and management of natural resources. NCCD provides natural resource technical assistance, requiring expertise in areas that include soils, erosion control, wetlands, storm water management, ponds, invasive plants, various State and Federal agricultural programs, watershed planning, and environmental regulations.
NCCD is seeking a full-time Natural Resource Specialist to support its mission. Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, field work, research, writing, and communication necessary to carry out NCCD programs and services. For example, the successful candidate will review development plans (natural resource impacts, erosion and sedimentation control, storm water management, etc.). Candidate will be assigned to serve as a municipal wetland agent as part of this role, including office hours and monthly evening meetings. Candidate will assist with inspections under the Construction Stormwater General Permit. Candidate will provide Conservation Technical Assistance to agricultural and forest landowners alongside federal partners. Candidate will assist with the development of water quality projects, including grant applications and project management. As part of a small non-profit team, the candidate must also assist with various administrative office duties and with running NCCD programs and events, such as the CT Envirothon Program.
Qualified Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in soil science, natural resources, agriculture, or a related field, and relevant experience. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities to manage multiple projects, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and work cooperatively with a broad client base.
Other Requirements: Candidates must either currently possess, or be willing and able to expeditiously acquire, the following: professional soil scientist certification, Certified Professional in Erosion and Sedimentation Control certification, and certification from the State of Connecticut Inland Wetland Training Program.
Limited weekend and evening work and in-state travel required. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, and be able to traverse irregular terrain on foot for the purpose of reviewing proposed development sites. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, and full-time positions include a competitive benefits package.
