Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving (AEAG) uses a wide variety of platforms, channels and methods to engage the university’s alumni in mutually rewarding long-term relationships. The unit also procures and increases annual gifts to the university by leveraging existing relationships and creating new ones. Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving collaborates with partners across campus to plan and implement a coordinated, integrated strategy aimed at increasing support for the university and building a culture of philanthropy within the university and across its constituencies.
Essential Job Duties
The Director of Engagement for Experiences is responsible for creating, curating, and strategically executing engagement experiences for the Office of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving at NC State University. This role involves developing and executing sophisticated in-person, digital, and hybrid experiences that vary in size from intimate gatherings (20-50 attendees) to large-scale events (1000 attendees). Collaborating with various units and divisions throughout the University, including the Chancellor’s office, this role demands strategic planning, creative input, and meticulous event logistics management. The Director plays a pivotal role in inspiring students, alumni, parents, donors and other stakeholders by aligning events with the vision and priorities of NC State University. The Director also manages the Wolftreks Travel Program. Wolftreks is an immersive travel program that explores diverse cultures and communities globally and provides a unique engagement opportunity for NC State Alumni and Friends.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Oversees the budget for events, vendor selection and contracts.
  • Identifies and hires outside vendors and approves those contracts, having accountability for all aspects of the initiatives and or specific events management
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, manages a percentage of the office budget to ensure complex and detailed logistics around initiatives and events are preapproved, including vendor negotiations and contracts, purchasing, equipment projections and proper method of payment of all invoices.
  • Directs and collaborates with the Business Office and UA Office of Finance, Administration and Talent Management regarding human resources issues to include staffing and recruitment and overall recommendations. Supervising roles include assignment of tasks, review of work product, training, and coaching.
  • Willingness to travel as required, and attend evening and weekend events.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related business area and three years of professional accounting experience, of which at least one is supervisory; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Event management experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to write clear, concise event descriptions using proper grammar.
  • Ability to command credibility and respect in forming trusting relationships across the University. Open and accessible interpersonal style.
  • Openness to new ideas and their implementation. Ability to react and adapt to changing situations appropriately.
  • Superb organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent skill and understanding of technology as a tool, and its applications in special events.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution of higher education with an emphasis in event management, hospitality, recreation and leisure.
  • Four years of event-management experience that includes events small to large and simple to complex.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Prefer experience working in or with a higher education institution or non-profit.
  • Familiarity with NC State culture.
