Description of Work
This position is located at Rockingham Youth Development Center in Reidsville, NC.
This position is responsible for providing, developing, coordinating and monitoring religious/spiritual activities and meeting the spiritual, emotional, clinical and social needs of the staff, youth and families served by Rockingham Youth Development Center. This position will also be responsible for developing a wide array of community resources including recruiting, orienting, coordinating, and supervising the various volunteers and religious organizations that provide their services to the youth and families served by the Department. Also responsible for collecting Juvenile Letters from the Housing Unit Black Box.
This position requires the ability to:
- Listen, understand, and minister to the specific spiritual needs of persons in crisis.
- Work effectively with persons of diverse religious, cultural racial backgrounds and structures.
- Establish intra-staff relationships and function in a multidisciplinary setting as a member of management, treatment and child care teams and to interpret to the staff the role of spirituality in delinquency and the religious resources and concerns of students.
- Relate effectively with all levels of staff, youth, families and communities.
- Develop education programs for clergy and laymen in the area of crisis ministry.
This positions is Monday - Friday 8AM-5PM
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
Knowledge of:- The principles and/or methods of pastoral care and/or counseling.
- Religious principles and/or practices of major faiths.
- The techniques of counseling and/or interviewing.
Management Preferences:- Knowledge of juvenile justice programming and the role of a chaplain in an institutional and community setting.
- Experience in the supervision of the clinical work of interns.
- Experience working with at-risk youth and families.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment as part of a treatment team.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master of Divinity degree from a school of theology or seminary accredited by The Association of Theological Schools (ATS) and one year of residency in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and Ordination or membership in a recognized religious governed body;
or
Master’s degree in related field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of residency in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and Ordination or membership in a recognized religious governed body.
