Salary Grade NC06 Salary Range $33,272 - $58,226
This position will serve within the FMMU Equipment Upfit Shop. Upfit new equipment; provide operation ready equipment and inventory support for field forces in the construction, maintenance and other transportation applicable applications related to roads, highways, and bridges. Support facilities, equipment, installations, etc. related for functional operations throughout the state. Assist the Upfit Shop Supervisor as needed in management of upfit shop projects and management tasks. Repair, rebuild, or maintain light or heavy equipment components as listed. Capable of demonstrating work knowledge in minimum of eleven of the following: Brake, Steering, Tires, Wheels, Clutch, Drive shafts, Auto transmission, Manual Transmission, Charging, Cranking, Ignition, Lighting, Cooling, Exhaust, Fuel, Power plant, Electrical Accessories, Horn, Cargo handling, Terminal components, Hydraulics, Safety Devices. Further must be able to demonstrate working knowledge in minimum of four of the following: Vehicle HVAC, Cab, Gauges, Front Axle, Rear Axle, Frames, Suspension, Driven front axle, Driven rear axle, Transfer Case, Air intake, PTO, Vehicle couplings, Body cargo, Rear Wall, Trailer frame, Heating unit, Blowers, Compressor, Auxiliary Engines, Lines, Pumps, Valves. Communicate with customers on a limited basis to ensure accurate description of complaints and repairs needed. Prepares and completes Equipment Work Orders as needed on a daily basis in order to aid in the time keeping process. Ensures the affected work area is kept clean and complies with all applicable safety rules. Work and task assigned will be on recurring and non-recurring work involving Needed abilities are to be working knowledge minimum of journeyman level for specifically listed items. Perform other duties and responsibilities, routine, or emergency situations, as assigned by the supervisor or upper management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Knowledge of automotive and/or heavy equipment repair.
  • Knowledge of techniques and methods involved in determining and solving mechanical problems.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated usage of diagnostic tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and explain technical and instructional manuals.
  • Experience in performing preventive maintenance on a minimum of one of the following: light, medium, heavy-duty trucks and heavy construction equipment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
