North Carolina Dept of Public Instruction is Hiring a School Principal Near Wake, NC

Description of Work

ANTICIPATED VACANCY
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for a School Principal for The Governor Morehead School. The Governor Morehead School is responsible for providing educational instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired in grades K-12. This is a residential program serving students from across North Carolina. This position is responsible for the administrative leadership and operations of the school's educational component, which are including but not limited to: human resources, external partnerships, managerial leadership, cultural leadership, academic achievement leadership. It is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating all delivered services. Knowledge of curriculum planning & development, braille instruction/intervention support for students with visual impairments is necessary. This position would require a written annual report to the school director/school superintendent and board of trustees regarding the academic progress of enrolled students. Additionally, the individual in this position is responsible for the supervision, training, evaluation, and professional growth of all 115C (certified) and 126 (non-certified) employees, including implementation of NCEES and NCVIP assessments for all employees. The school principal should be aware of ADA laws for staff members who need accommodation for work. The principal is actively involved on a day-to-day basis with students, families, and staff as part of the K-12 team as well as a vital member of the school's leadership team, working closely with the student life director, business and finance team, human resources manager, food service director and others. The principal serves as a link with Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and Public School Units (PSUs) across the state, university teacher training programs, other agencies, and community organizations. This position is evaluated on the school administrator’s rubric in NCEES.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form. Any information listed under the text resume section or on an attachment will not be considered for qualifying credit. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:

  • Knowledge of the expanded core curriculum and its effective implementation in the educational setting.
  • Knowledge of guiding principles and/or practices specific to professional growth for educational employees.
  • Knowledge of the evaluation systems for certified educators, including knowledge relative to classroom instruction, professional growth, and the delivery of support and supervision to new/initially licensed educators.
  • Experience in the use of ECATS, Medicaid billing, PowerSchool.
  • Knowledge of budget development and management.
  • Knowledge of school law and exceptional children’s laws and/or regulations.
  • Knowledge of teacher licensure (general & special education).
  • Knowledge of formal and informal assessments, including progress monitoring tools, and/or report writing.
Management Preference:
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with staff, students and families, contract providers, community organizations, other state and county agencies, and the general public.
  • Skills in long-range program planning, development, implementation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think, analyze, problem solve, generate options, develop, and implement a plan, evaluate and make adjustments where needed for immediate or day-to-day and long-range issues.
  • At least three years of experience working with students who are visually impaired in an education setting.
  • At least three years of experience in school administration.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to pass drug screening.
  • Must be able to pass Criminal Background Check.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master's degree or beyond in School Administration with or eligible to receive a license level of one of the following: P, S, AP, AS, D, DP, or DS.
Candidates with a minimum of three to five years of successful Principal/Assistant Principal experience. Candidates with experience in visual impairment education and braille are preferred but not required.
