Description of Work

Reporting to the Correctional Associate Warden of Custody, this position manages the total operation of a close custody institutional housing unit within a minimum/medium/close custody prison facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:

Working occasionally on nights and/or weekends and supervising staff.

Determining and evaluating program design necessary to meet the needs of the offender population.

Coordinating programs and services with staff.

Performing orientation with offenders which includes administration, disciplinary segregation, education, mental health, operations, programs, and work assignments.

Final approval of authority on unit classification and disciplinary committees.

Working in accordance with departmental regulations and established procedures.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance and Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs and Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation and Reentry.

About Southern Correctional Institution:

Southern Correctional Institution is located in Troy, North Carolina and houses up to 700 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of correctional experience, three of which must have been at the supervisory level

Necessary Special Qualifications:

MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

This is in addition to submitting fingerprints during the application process.
