Courses may be seated, online, or hybrid. Two Positions: 1.) Location at Alexander Correctional Institution Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 7:30-10:30 & 12:30-3:30 and Wednesday 7:30-10:30 2.) Location at Catawba Prison, a minimum security institution Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - 8:00-11:30 & 12:30-4:00Examples of Duties Provide effective instruction to students online and/or in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental materials to enhance textbooks and lessons, and using effective evaluation methods to measure student performance. Ensure teaching and working environment (classroom, lab, shop) by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards. Maintain accurate records (such as attendance, grades, documentation for accreditation, etc.) and submit any corresponding reports according to departmental or college guidelines. Maintain ADA Compliance for all course materials. Must be at ease working in a correctional setting with inmates, flexible, organized with attention to details, assertive, possess excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with possible conflict in a calm, orderly manner. Must be able to maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, etc. Must be able to work as part of a team and must value collaboration; possess excellent teaching skills and an educational philosophy that is compatible with the mission of the community college. Teach Commercial Cleaning and entrepreneurship classes at Alexander Correctional Institution (AXCI) through CVCC’s Economic Development and Corporate Education Department. Instruct students in the tools, equipment, cleaning techniques, chemical agents, and basic mechanical and building repair techniques through classroom and hands-on activities and projects in the prison. Maintain accurate records of student attendance & performance. Maintain classroom/laboratory to include overall cleanliness and conformance to OSHA. Must attend instructor orientation provided by the correctional institution prior to entering the prison classroom to teach. Must pass a background check. Compliance with the rules and guidelines set forth by the correctional institution while in the prison setting is required. Any failure to comply with these rules and guidelines will result in disciplinary action and possible loss of access to correctional institutions and position with the college. Qualifications Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in the commercial cleaning industry. Experience in teaching/training adult learners will be a plus. Education: High School Diploma minimum (some college preferred) Knowledge of: Current trends, research, developments, and resources in relevant field Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations as they relate to students and teaching Ability to: Create effective instruction for delivery both online and in the classroom Communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing Work effectively in diverse teams, both within assigned department and cross-functionally across the college Interpret and apply college goals, policies, and procedures Maintain any relevant equipment and supplies related to instructionSupplemental Information All adjunct positions are contingent upon enrollment needs and funding. All employees paid by direct deposit. Copies of all unofficial degree transcripts, including coursework completed and degree conferred, must be provided during the on-line application process. Official transcripts are required to be forwarded to the CVCC Human Resources Office upon hire.
