Primary Purpose of Position

The Volunteer / Tutor Coordinator of the Men’s Achievement Center is a crucial resource for the development of African American Males and other underrepresented male populations on campus.

The Volunteer / Tutor Coordinator shares the responsibilities for the daily operation of the Men’s Achievement Center, including, but not limited to the Centennial Scholars Program / African American Male Initiative, Latino male initiative, academic enhancement initiative, Mac Brothers, and various registered student organizations while providing leadership, mentoring, advising, and programming for students.

This individual offers support and guidance to ensure academic and social success while promoting cultural pluralism and dialogue on matters related to college male development.

The Academic Success Coordinator &Tutor Coordinator is supervised by the Director of the Men’s Achievement Center and will assist in carrying out its long-term goals.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent counseling, relationship building, and teamwork skills
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and sensitivity regarding inclusion issues
• Knowledge of student development and higher education philosophies and theories, specifically those pertaining to African American and Latino males
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
• Demonstrated superior customer service skills for both internal and external audiences

Two (2) to five (5) years of experience working at the professional level with college students in a college setting

Marketing skills with excellent public speaking / presentation skills

Research training Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation N / A
