Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Mathematics and Physics offers programs of study leading to Baccalaureate degrees in Mathematics and Physics.
Primary Purpose of Position
To support research and training in the DREAM STEM and the Engineering Physics Projects at NCCU. To assist in the creative development and enhancement of the project components and training of NCCU STEM students.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Background evidencing success in advising and mentoring STEM undergraduate students, guiding research scholars, teaching STEM courses, coordinating and conducting scientific research, securing federal and private funding, and publishing in refereed journals. The candidate must be effective in problem solving and in working with students, staff, and faculty.
Design: Design, develop, setup, and test physics and engineering experimental projects and adapt to teaching laboratories, research training, and DREAM STEM summer institutes.
Training and instructional: Deliver training in DREAM STEM summer institutes and undergraduate research experiences and internship components of project.
Laboratory Maintenance and Operations: Maintain the new electrical and mechanical engineering for teaching and training laboratory facilities. Manage and operate the
research-grade 3D printer, CNC machines, and 3D modeling and design software.
Research: Participate in educational research in STEM teaching and training for underrepresented minority students. Participate in basic science and engineering research to
expand capacity of the department.
Mentoring: Mentor and supervise undergraduate students in their research, internships, and
academics.
Minimum Education/Experience
Master's degree in physics or related field and three (3) years of related experience.
Preferred: PhD in Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering and complementary education or training in physics or engineering respectively. Three years of research experience and 1 year of teaching at the collegiate level.
