North Carolina Adult Correction is Hiring a Correctional Programs Supervisor - Granville Correctional Institution Near Granville, NC

Description of Work

This position reports to the Correctional Programs Director and will function in the Programs section at a close custody male correctional facility. This position provides transitional and re-entry programing and functions for the rehabilitation of offenders. This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining Programs activities for offenders in one or more major and broad programs for offenders at the institution. (The primary programs areas are offender classification; correctional programs including work release, incentive wage, study release, educational/vocational, volunteer programs, religion, and recreation, and correctional counseling.)
  • Contacting community agencies regularly to enrich programs, to establish new programs, and to conduct work release investigations, if needed.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of community volunteer workers assigned to programs activities and supervising subordinate staff as needed.
  • Coordinating Programs activities with custody and other facility staff.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.
Note to Current State Employees:
The salary grade for this position is NC08 (Salary Range: $36,682 - $64,194). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About Granville Correctional Institution:

Granville Correctional Institution houses close custody offenders in both single cells and dormitories. The facility houses offenders assigned to various restrictive housing and control statuses and some pre-trial safe-keepers. The prison's high-security unit houses the state's most violent and assaultive offenders.

The prison offers a wide variety of educational and vocational programs and is home to one of the prison system's four schools for young offenders.

Formerly known as Polk Correction Institution, the facility opened in 1997, replacing the former Polk Youth Institution on Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh, at the current site of the NC Museum of Art.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

To qualify for this position, applicants must document in the work experience section of the application that they possess ALL of the following:
  • Documented knowledge of internal and/or external services available to offenders.
  • Documented 12 months (1 year) of correctional program experience.
  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a Human Services or Criminal Justice field from an appropriately accredited institution AND one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications
: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
