As a Medical Technologist, you will be helping to develop new tests and techniques that will eventually be used in clinical settings to diagnose or determine treatments for patients. Your duties will include but are not limited to: Performing and interpreting tests at all complexity levels. Determining the validity of test results through the monitoring and/or verifying of quality controls, as well as the need for additional tests. Communicating test results, reference ranges, specimen requirements, and other pertinent information to authorized sources. The ideal future caregiver is someone who: Demonstrates an understanding of the theory and scientific principles of laboratory testing as well as the technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects. Has a bachelor's or associate degree in medical laboratory science. If a bachelor's degree in chemistry or biological science has been obtained, then the ideal future caregiver will also have previous exposure to hematology principles and/or experience working in a clinical laboratory. Has an understanding/knowledge of cell identification and coagulation. Is self-motivated. Works professionally in a team environment. Medical Technologists are encouraged to set personal goals that align with the laboratory's goals and work toward becoming a Lead Tech, Lab Coordinator, Quality Specialist or Supervisor.
