Rural Access to Community Care and Education (RACCE)

Job Summary

North Alabama AHEC is looking for community-minded individuals with a passion for helping others. Serving in a dual role as a program coordinator and community health worker (CHW), you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of a new program geared to train youth and young adults as CHWs. You will assist in the establishment of a training space; facilitate the training of up to 20 youth/young adults; and serve your community by connecting residents to needed resources. Our candidate will strive to create positive experiences for all participants and repeat best practices for future programs. As a well-respected member of the community, you will be promoted as a trustworthy resource of information by your neighbors and community partners. We expect each candidate to meet company goals as well as have a commitment to career development and growth. You must reside in Lawrence county in the proximity of North Courtland, Courtland, Town Creek, Hillsboro etc.

Job Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Recruit up to 20 youth/ young adults for the program.

• Facilitate the training and mentoring of youth in community related activities.

• Complete initial and ongoing training. (Must have access to a computer/internet)

• Support planning and coordination of the program and its activities.

• Stay up to date with health trends and needs of your target community.

• Oversee daily administrative, operational, and logistical activities.

• Participate in and/or create outreach efforts to raise community health awareness.

• Create promotional materials to encourage community participation.

• Schedule and organize meetings/events and maintain agendas.

• Research and be aware of community-based resources.

• Reach out to community residents on a regular basis to check on how they are doing, answer questions, make personalized recommendations or referrals to services.

• Complete administrative tasks as required to ensure proper and organized record keeping, working with AHEC staff members and community partners when/if necessary.

Job Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or its equivalent

• People skills and the ability to reach out to community residents.

• Have experience or a desire to work with young people.

• Understands and is part of the community being served.

• Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner

• Organizational skills and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Ability to work 20 - 25 hours per week.

• Be able to access to a computer and the internet.

• Have reliable transportation.

Compensation

The position is part-time independent contractor. (Currently funded through Dec ’24). Compensation is dependent on academic background and experience. Pay range is $18 - 20 per hour.
