About the Position The Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Pesticide Applicator. The jobholder Applies pesticides. Exterminates rodents. Maintains pesticide application equipment. Receives training in proper work method from senior staff. Transports equipment to work site. Processes work order documents. Performs routine shop inventory management of chemicals, tools, and equipment. May work independent assignments as directed by Pesticide Specialist.

Key Responsibilities The primary duties of this position include:

  • Applies pesticides: receives and prioritizes work orders for applying pest control chemicals; mixes pest control chemicals in tank, following safety standards; sprays and/or fogs resident units with pest extermination chemicals; follows up on pesticide application as needed.
  • Exterminates rodents: places and applies bait for extermination of rodents.
  • Maintains pesticide application equipment: cleans and repairs equipment as directed.
  • Receives training in proper work method from senior staff.
  • Transports equipment to work site: loads truck; drives to site following standard traffic safety procedures; unloads truck; reloads and returns to shop.
  • Secures housing units following completion of job.
  • Processes work order documents: receives, completes and submits finished work orders.
  • Performs routine shop inventory management of chemicals, tools, and equipment.
  • Performs other related work as required.

About the Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have:

  • Some High School education or work toward a General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Two to three years of pesticide application experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience necessary to obtain required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • State-registered Pesticide Applicator Technician certification.
  • Current and valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, see, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds,such as ranges and furniture; includes ability to wear a 10 plus pound pesticide gear on back for periods in excess of one hour.

NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he/she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.

NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The pay range for this position is $37,440 – 46,696 per year. The pay offer will be determined by the candidate's work history and skill mix. This position qualifies for a $3,000 new hire payment, delivered in two installments.
