REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Music
  • Valid Nebraska Certificate with an endorsement in Music Education PK-12
  • Successful teaching and/or practice teaching experience
  • Successfully pass district background check

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator(s)

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Administrator(s)

JOB GOAL: To organize and conduct a learning program which will enable students to master appropriate levels of subject matter, skills and appreciation of music. The teacher shall make a contribution which will assist the student in the development of a positive self image and enjoyment of leisure time as an adult.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month school year as established by the Board of Education

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Plans instructional objectives and activities consistent with music curriculum guide lines
  • Direct and supervises small and large group activities
  • Supervises the behavior in the school environment to maintain the safety and well-being of students and staff
  • Selects materials suitable for the objectives
  • Shows concern for all students, not just those displaying talent
  • Keeps accurate attendance and progress records
  • Utilizes a variety of analytical and evaluative techniques in auditioning and placement of students
  • Communicates a positive support of the students in their musical development
  • Relates with staff, parents and community through positive professional cooperation
  • Supervises and provides individual and/or ensemble music lessons as time permits
  • Arranges transportation of performance groups to various locations
  • Maintains and replaces uniforms, robes and other related items
  • Plans, organizes, rehearses and conducts in-school and out-of-school performances of small and large groups
  • Conduct daily and/or weekly instructional sessions for vocal groups and band

OCCASIONAL:

  • Prepare and submit budget for groups, travel, equipment and supplies
  • Work with drama department on joint musical productions
  • Suggest positive recommendation for the continuing review and development of curriculum
  • Inform students of upcoming honor bands, all State Band, etc.
  • Assist students in taping of auditions of honor band, all-state, etc.
  • Actively participate at scheduled staff meetings and serves on educational committees
  • Assumes responsibility for periodic conferences with parents
  • Remains current with professional training and show evidence of regular professional growth
  • Recognizes the extra curriculum program as integral to the educational development of the student
  • Performs extra duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned by the appropriate administrator

  • Exceptional auditory acuity
  • Ability to deal with stress and time schedules
  • Ability to lead and supervise large groups of students
  • Musical performance talent
  • Skills in oral and written communication, organization, human relations, assessment and evaluation
