We are seeking an experienced Dental Assistant for an available contract opportunity to provide on-site services for the inmates housed at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix, in New Jersey.

Services will be performed in the Health Services Unit at:
FCI FORT DIX
License: Must have a current license/certification/registration as a Dental Assistant in the state of NJ.
Lifesaving Certification: Must be certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the American Heart Association.
Required Experience: Must have at least one year of experience within the past three years.

The Dental Assistant Services will be performed on-site in the Health Services Department at the Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Dix, New Jersey. FCI Fort Dix has three (3) dental clinics, and Dental Assistant Services will be performed at any of the clinics. Institution Management will determine where the services are needed at any given time.
Facility Information: FCI Fort Dix is a low security federal correctional institution with an adjacent minimum security satellite camp
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week with benefits.
Normal Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays) between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM, with a 30 minute unpaid lunch period. The schedule is subject to changes to accommodate the needs of the facility.
Basic Scope of Work:
Assists Dental Officer in dental specialty sections: restorative, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, prosthetics, and examinations
Retrieves patient’s records and escorts patients to proper dental specialty section; seats and prepares patient for attending Dental Officer
Assists Dental Officer by preparing dental instruments, essential materials, drugs, and medications
Passes instruments, retracts tissues, irrigates oral cavity, and operates aspirator
Gives instructions for subsequent dental appointments
Makes necessary entries on dental treatment records (both electronic and paper records)
Prepares dental treatment room for the next patient
Assists in the treatment of emergency cases.
Provides dental health education
Performs Dental prophylaxes – polishing of coronal portion of teeth, if the assistant is a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) or Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA).
Performs Dental screening examinations
Prepares patients for periodontal surgery
Prepares, places, and removes packs
Places temporary fillings (RDA, EFDA)
Places and removes rubber dams
Maintains dental equipment
Cleans, sharpens, and sterilizes instruments
Performs daily inspection of equipment and makes minor repairs
Reports defective equipment, or institutes corrective action
Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements/Qualifications:
The Dental Assistants shall possess a specialty training certification from a Dental Assistant program. The contractors must be licensed in one of the
50 states to perform dental radiographs; or show successful completion of a radiation health and safety program or examination approved by a state
board of dentistry or the Department of Defense (DoD).
