ESTIMATOR NEEDED FOR GENERAL CONSTRUCTION TEAM

Location : Plainfield, New Jersey

Overview : Our client’s expanding General Construction team is seeking an Estimator. The ideal candidate will excel in bidding and securing highly profitable and feasibly constructible projects.

Responsibilities include coordinating bid documents, pricing strategies, subcontractor management, and overseeing the estimation team.

Responsibilities :

• Prepare accurate pricing estimates with detailed labor, material, and subcontractor items.
• Develop self-perform estimates and compare with subcontractor pricing.
• Lead and develop the estimation team.
• Research construction documents and analyze specifications for estimated costs.
• Identify project risks and opportunities and articulate them to management.
• Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and architects to ensure accuracy.
• Manage multiple preconstruction projects simultaneously.
• Develop cost estimates for change orders and present them to management.
• Recommend cost-reduction options for competitive bids.
• Attend project site meetings and maintain a directory of suppliers and subcontractors.
• Keep current on market conditions and construction industry trends.
• Oversee and support the training of the estimating staff.
• Assign responsibilities for the estimating team on each project.
• Review project plans and specifications to confirm complete scope.
• Evaluate technical issues related to projects.
• Ensure project information flow is maintained and documented.
• Maintain quality submissions for new work bids.
• Analyze quotes from subcontractors and suppliers to win competitive contracts.
• Actively participate in industry and community relations to enhance company image.

Experience :

• Minimum 3 years of estimator / industry experience in industrial, commercial, or heavy civil construction.
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite, with advanced knowledge of Excel.
• Experience with software such as Bluebeam, P6, and MS Projects.
• Ability to read, understand, and organize construction plans and specifications.
• Capability to complete complex competitive bid projects.
• Experience with mechanical and electrical systems costs.
• Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and means of transportation.
• Willingness to travel to jobsites.

Preferences :

• Advanced project estimator skills, including engineering calculations.
• Experience with site work, concrete, paving, steel, and building construction.

Physical Requirements :

• Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity for office and field work.
• Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry items less than 40 pounds.
