Nolan County Sheriff's Office is Hiring a COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER Near Sweetwater, TX

SALARY: $4,214.10 monthly or $24.31 per hour (after probationary period)

ANNUAL CERTIFIED SALARY: $50,569.21
Standard probationary period of 6 months during which time salary is reduced by $50.00 per month.

SHIFT: Ability to work any shift including nights, weekends and holidays with varying days off.

CLOSING DATE: Open until position(s) filled.

REGULAR PAY DAYS: Two pay days per month; the 15th of each month and the last day of the month. If pay day falls on a holiday or weekend; payroll will be issued the business day preceding the holiday or weekend. Any overtime is paid on the last paycheck of the month.

RESIDENCY: Employees are encouraged to reside within the boundaries of Nolan County, however, there are no restrictions.

LONGEVITY PAY: Longevity pay at the rate of $5.00 per month for each year of completed service after five (5) years; 6-10 years of service, $10.00 per month for each year of completed service; 10-15 years of service, $15.00 per month for each year of completed service thereafter.
HEALTH, DENTAL AND LIFE INSURANCE: Standard major medical health insurance (currently Blue Cross/Blue Shield) is provided for the employee at no cost. Dental insurance coverage is also provided for the employee as well as a $10,000.00 life insurance policy. Dependent health and dental coverages are available with monthly premiums paid by the employee.
LEAVE TIME: Paid vacation at the rate of 10 working days (80 hours) per year after first year county service and 15 working days (120 hours) per year after 10 years of county service. 13 paid holidays (8 hours per holiday) 104 hours per year. Sick leave cumulative at the rate of 1 day (8 hours) sick leave per month; unused days carry over each year for a maximum 480 hours.

RETIREMENT: Texas County and District Retirement System (TCDRS). Nolan County contributes $1.70 for each dollar employee has withheld.

UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT: Uniforms and coats are provided.

NATURE OF WORK: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER receives and assesses emergency and routine public phone calls, categorizes, and prioritizes the request for law enforcement assistance, obtains necessary information, researches involved parties, locations and addresses for prior events, for officer safety information, determines what resources to use, and dispatches units to incident locations. Tracks units and maintains cognizant knowledge of all field units as to their status and location throughout the assigned shift. Monitors other agency radio traffic for possible assistance requirements and exchanges information with other law enforcement officials.

The communications officer utilizes TLETS (Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System), Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) networks and maintains the security and integrity of the office and of TCIC files. The communications officer dispatches special assignment teams as necessary to handle special or critical incidents and performs weather watch for tornadoes, and coordinates actions with emergency agencies. Work is performed under the direction of Patrol Sergeant, Stacy Villanueva and functions may vary by individual assignment.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Include reading/writing (reports, legal documents, etc.), the ability to operate a computer (Windows) and communicate on phone and in person. Some combination of sitting, twisting the upper body, reaching, bending, stooping, standing, walking, kneeling, the use of arms and hands for computer input, crouching, running, climbing, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of extremely heavy objects (150 pounds).

In addition, a communications officer must be able to exert physical force when necessary and may be exposed to extreme noise levels, occasional exposure to communicable diseases and subjected to verbal and physical abuse.

All communications officers are required to attend a 40-hour course at the West Central Texas Law Enforcement Academy for telecommunicator certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Upon successful completion of the Academy and state exam, Certified Telecommunicator status is attained.
