Nokia is Hiring a Research Sales Principal Near Irving, TX

The candidate research assets can be manifold, ranging from algorithms, ASIC designs, radio hardware designs, software, simulation tools, to research studies in the domains of wireless systems, optical systems, related devices, and network systems and security. The target opportunities are mainly external companies that can leverage the research asset for a commercial product, but also possible government contracts.

The Research Sales Principal will have exposure to the rich research portfolio, and thanks to their general technical understanding and broad sense for the industry (service providers, webscale, app developers, defense companies), they are expected to identify the nuggets that can lead to additional research revenues with external companies. They will creatively map out target markets and customers that are not in competition with Nokia's potential businesses nor incubation initiatives. They will identify the potential customers, build relations, give technical research presentations at a sales level, work with the customer on how a concept can be utilized in their context, and ultimately negotiate and close research sales deals.

The main focus is to develop research business with industry companies, large and small, because this opportunity is currently not addressed. In addition, some of the identified research assets have potential for government contracts, for which the Research Sales Principal will collaborate with the Government Business development functions in Nokia.
The Research Sales Principal will interact with the following people and functions in Nokia:

- Lab leaders in Bell Labs Research, to identify research assets with a potential for external research funding mainly from industry partners, but also through government contracts.

- Key researchers to learn more details about the research concept so the Research Sales Principal can create and deliver presentations to potential customers.

- S&T Operations for Government Business development and for the logistics around contracts.

- S&T Strategic Partnerships to strategically identify potential customers and identify opportunities beyond the existing incubation framework.

- Nokia TECH to identify augmentation of technology licensing opportunities.

- Industry partners, large and small companies, in different sectors relevant to the research assets.

Essential Requirements:

  • MSc in Engineering or Computer Science
  • PhD or affinity with research and MBA are a plus
  • Ten years of experience in the ICT industry with at least a few years in technical sales.
  • Technical sales and business development acumen
  • General technical knowledge with ability to capture essence of innovations
  • Business creativity to canvas opportunities of an innovation beyond Nokia's business
  • Business analysis to assess initial business case (opportunity size, competitive landscape, cost and revenue) for strategic prioritization and portfolio management
  • Sales acumen to engage with customers, negotiate and close deals
  • Self-driven, entrepreneurial mindset.

Preferred Requirements:

  • People network with relevant contacts in the industry that can provide inroads
  • Experience in at least one of the target industries, e.g., verticals, defense.
  • Curious to learn about research innovation and market beyond our conventional CSP customers.
