NOELA Community Health Center is Hiring a Vietnamese Patient Registration Coordinator/Interpreter Near Orleans, LA

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides support to NOELA Community Health Center’s community based clinic. Individual will provide support for patients, staff and clinic in order to most effectively provide patient care. Responsible for patient interaction at initial check in, chart preparation and filing, data collection and entry, telephone support, and processing of fees-for-service and additional duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school diploma or equivalent required. Higher education desirable.

2. Ability to use various standardized word processing and spreadsheet software required;
working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access software preferred.

3. Cash handling and reconciliation experience required.

4. Experience working in a medical setting preferred.

5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

6. Ability to work in a culturally diverse, patient-centered, holistic atmosphere.

7. Ability to travel to and work at different sites as needed.

8. Familiar with operation of electronic office machines (phones, copier, fax, scanner)

9. Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese highly preferred.

10. Knowledge of HMO, PPO and Governmental payer policies and guidelines preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

1. Patient Check-in

a. Performs initial patient check-in and verification of patient information including
demographics.

b. Accurately enters all patient information into the electronic medical record.

c. Communicates clearly and concisely with co-workers all relevant information necessary
for quality patient care.

d. Ensures front desk check-in area is stocked with necessary forms and supplies.

e. Informs patients in the lobby about the status of their visit as appropriate.

f. Verifies insurance status and document appropriate billing information.

g. Assesses patients’ ability to pay fee-for-service as indicated and collects appropriate fee
according to established policies and procedures.

h. Assists patients with completing fee-for-service forms when necessary.

i. Processes billing forms and submits charges for payment.

j. Accurately records monetary transactions in receipt books and on tracking log.

k. Accurately maintains record of cash balance on site.

l. Reconciles cash payments at end of shift.

2. Scheduling

a. Schedule patients that either walk-in or call for appointment into the scheduling system.
Appointments will be for physician, nurse, or social work visits.

b. Determine patient’s need for either new, continuity or urgent care appointment.

c. Appropriately document all information related to the scheduling and re-scheduling of
patients including patient demographics and insurance status.

d. Calls patients to remind them of their scheduled appointments as needed.

3. Phone Calls

a. Responsible for answering calls in courteous and respectful manner and provides
appropriate resources to caller (i.e. clinic information, educational materials, etc).

b. Responsible for transferring calls to appropriate individuals and taking messages as
necessary. Follow up on messages as necessary.

c. Responsible for checking voicemail and documenting as appropriate

d. Maintains telephone log.

e. Appropriately documents telephone conversations as necessary.

4. Insurance Verification

a. Verify patient’s insurance coverage in Emdeon and through Medicaid online verification
systems.

b. Assesses Medicaid patient eligibility for allowable number of visits annually and associated
co-payments.

c. Ensure Community Care referrals are in place prior to patient visit.

d. Direct patients to Community Care site as appropriate for changing Primary Care provider.

e. Reviews patients’ eligibility for Medicare, Medicaid, Take Charge and other insurance
payers. If eligible, schedule time to meet with Social Worker.

5. Medical Records

a. Responsible for scanning paper-based medical records into the electronic medical records
(HIPAA compliance signature form, certification of financial status, test results, outside
medical records, etc.)

b. Answering medical records request in a timely manner.

c. Retrieving and filing charts maintained in the clinic.

6. Supply and organization

b. Responsible for cleaning and stocking patient waiting area.

c. Maintains patient files and databases.

d. Contact patients regarding medical record release request forms and document
appropriately.

e. Scans patient information into the electronic medical record.

f. Responsible for notifying supervisor of needed supplies in a timely manner.

7. Additional tasks as needed

a. Cross trains with other support staff to assist as needed as relating to clinic efficiency.

b. Exhibits a willingness to learn new tasks.

c. Complete programs or projects as relevant to personal academic needs in relation to clinic
mission statement.

d. Interpret and translate when appropriate

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.00 - $18.00 per hour
