About the Internship
nLIGHT is currently recruiting for an Engineering student to intern with us for the summer of 2024. This internship is a 10 to 12-week program that offers challenging assignments, projects, and career development opportunities to enhance your professional growth. You will also earn a competitive salary based on your discipline and academic class status.
About the Team
We are a team who supports the manufacturing of high-power industrial lasers used for both cutting and additive mfg. Works within a group responsible for designing and overseeing processes for test and volume manufacturing. Works closely with the shop floor for troubleshooting, process optimization, and cost reduction.
What You Can Expect to Learn
  • You will be trained to operate multi-kilowatt fiber lasers.
  • Your mentor will advise how to plan and execute DOE's (Design of Experiments).
  • You will be trained to conduct measurement system analysess (MSA / GR&R).
  • You will learn to process, splice, and conduct thermal measurements of optical fibers.
  • Develop effective participation skills in cross-functional teams. Learn to operate within a large company and learn organizational design.
What You Can Expect to Do
  • By end of week 2: Have completed all necessary safety training and on the job training to be able to run high power laser test stations
  • By end of week 4: Have researched, proposed and aligned with stakeholders on your GR&R Plan
  • By end of week 8: Have completed GR&R data collection on the production floor and complete initial data analysis
  • By end of week 10: Propose calibration process changes based on your findings and document
  • By end of week 12: Complete training
Who You Are
  • Engineering / Physics / Optics background
  • Hands on, data analysis skills (specific training in GR&R will be provided) 
  • Proactive individual with drive to learn both engineering and non-engineering skills
Minimum Job Requirements
  • You must be working toward a degree in Engineering
  • You must have completed (at a minimum) your sophomore year in college
  • You must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above to be considered
Intern Social Events
This summer we are bringing on around 5 interns and want to ensure the time is well spent on and off the clock! That said, our interns can expect adventures in the PNW, board game nights at local breweries/coffee shops, the nLIGHT Summer Picnic, Happy Hour networking events with Senior Leadership, and much more!

Compensation and BenefitsCompensation
  • $26 - 28/hr
