Primary Responsibilities:

Plans, coordinates, and directs the day-to-day operation of all train service in the Newark District. Reacts to service disruptions, coordinates with other operating agencies and performs public relations.
Coordinates with the Mechanical department to ensure the day-to-day running repairs of rolling stock assigned to the Newark District.
Coordinates with the Infrastructure department to ensure the day-to-day infrastructure repairs in the Newark District. Maintains compliance with FRA and NJ Transit construction codes and standards.
Directs external relations with customers, local officials, advisory boards and adjacent property owners.
Directs the implementation and administration of NJ Transit Rail's system-wide Safety Program. Conducts employee and passenger forums. Administers D & A Program and monitoring of on-going training and counseling.
Coordinates the handling of labor grievances. Consults with Labor Relations and Union Representatives for the resolution of penalty time claims and disputes. Reviews results of labor investigations, and carries out discipline as required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

Baccalaureate Degree in Transportation, Business Administration or related area, or equivalent.
Ten (10) years of rolling stock maintenance experience, including increasingly responsible management experience to include direct supervision of agreement and non-agreement employees.
One year of closely related experience can be substituted for one year of education required.
