Field Representative (Region located in South NJ and will require travel to South NJ)

Summary
Performs statewide field inspections to locate bus stops, signs, shelters, and miscellaneous facility signs in accordance with NJDOT specifications, adhering to the Motor Vehicle and Traffic Laws of NJ (Title 39).
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Negotiates with local officials to avoid conflict and reach agreement on the placement of bus stops for approval by ordinance/resolution. Corresponds and meets with municipal, county, and state officials, and outside agencies to implement programs, analyze and respond to requests, draft proper legal documents, review proposals, and obtain approvals.
  • Assists Supervisor in addressing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) sign and shelter activities.
  • Assists Supervisor in addressing program’s communications and activities related to outdoor advertising shelters installed by private vendors.
  • Interfaces with Service Planning and Bus Operations to ensure stops are situated for maximum efficiency, passenger safety and convenience, and to reflect quarterly bus service changes.
  • Prepares detailed data reports for input into the bus stop computer inventory (BSI) database for sharing company-wide, targeting ATIS, Bus Operations, and GIS.
  • Creates detailed sign and shelter installation packages that include the posting of route numbers, destinations, and general frequency. Conducts utility clearance checks. Coordinates installation of sign materials and passenger amenities with sign crew and municipalities.
  • Prepares detailed shelter installation diagrams for submission to NJT drafting for sending to installation contractor and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports to document field investigations, track status of outstanding requests and ongoing projects, and assists Supervisor in drafting replies to claims cases.
  • Supply information regarding to Claim Cases, OPRA, Customer Service and Support Force inquiries.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business or Urban Planning, or related area and one (1) or more years of administrative experience in transportation or planning. Any combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted.
  • Familiarity with drafting desired.
  • Bus Operations experience desired.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, AutoCAD, (GIS) Geographic Information System, (BSI) Bus Stop Inventory, (BSL) Bus Stop by Lines, (ATIS) Automatic Terminal Information Service, ADA Guidelines and Motor Vehicle and Traffic Laws of NJ (Title 39).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Must have valid driver license
