Job Summary

Responsible for the set up and operation of various printing presses and managing and ensuring the continual operation of all facets of press operation.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Set up and independently operate Press Equipment including Flexographic, Letterpress, and Off-Set Presses, managing the manufacturing processes associated with the assigned equipment with an emphasis on productivity, quality, safety, and good housekeeping
  2. Manage all processes associated with Press Operation, including the tasks and responsibilities of the assigned Press Helper and Associate.
  3. Train and educate Press Helpers and Associates on operational procedures and technical aspects of the press and other equipment involved in the manufacturing process.
  4. Perform processing tasks including die cutting, perfing (marginal and cross), and punching.
  5. Perform other tasks associated with the printing process including rewinding, unwinding, slitting, folding (fixed and variable), packaging tasks, etc.
  6. Review job tickets and verify stock, inks, and dies are available and used as specified.
  7. Complete required paperwork and quality sign offs.
  8. Inspect finished product for any imperfections or irregularities making adjustments as needed.
  9. Maintain running speeds, tension, and registration, of presses while checking for quality.
  10. Perform numbering tasks ( T/S belts, ink jets, and numbering machines).
  11. Perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance tasks on printing equipment, contacting Maintenance if needed.
  12. Communicate with Machine Operators, Press Operators, Team Leads, and Supervisors on production issues, needs, and recommendations to improve production effectiveness and efficiency, including safety recommendations.
  13. Interpret production paperwork for accurate product production and shipment and prepare finished product for shipment.
  14. Manage supplies and materials needed for production on assigned equipment.
  15. Use required measuring instruments (scales, micro scales, calipers, and densitometer).
  16. Ensure compliance with company safety rules and policies including OSHA and ISO requirements.
  17. Communicate and coordinate as necessary with other departments including maintenance, warehouse, quality, etc.
  18. Assist in material and finished product movement (hand / fork truck, etc).
  19. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in a constructive, positive manner with others in a team environment.
  • Basic reading, math, and direction following skills.
  • Knowledge of and Skill in Lithographic, Flexographic, or Web printing.
  • Mathematical aptitude (measurements).
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to use basic measurement instruments.
  • Excellent reading comprehension.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability and desire to learn other printing processes and equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and react quickly to operation issues.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and Management.

Requirements

  • GED or High School diploma.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in printing.
  • Experience with Flexographic, Lithographic, Web, or Off-Set printing and equipment preferred.

Physical Requirements

Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time. Continuously (75-100%)

Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Also includes finger dexterity. Frequently (50-75%)

Bending: Stooping, crouching, full back and leg flexibility. Occasionally (25-50%)

Kneeling: Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees. Rarely (0-25%)

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Frequently (50-75%)

Lifting: Picking up and movement of objects. May involve carrying as well. Frequently (50-75%)

Climbing: Ascending or descending using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. Rarely (0-25%)

Vision: Ability to see and recognize detail.(Corrected or uncorrected.) Continuously (75-100%)

Repetitive Motion: Recurring movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Frequently (50-75%)

Pushing/Pulling: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force to provoke movement, or to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Occasionally (25-50%)

Pay Range: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour $3.50 per hour shift premium
Pay is dependent on multiple factors, including job related knowledge, skills and experience.
